Student answer (Band 6.0)

The pie charts illustrates the ordinary proportion in normal food of three kinds of nutrients, sodium , saturated fat and added sugar which is not beneficial for health if uses more than normal use.

Overall, the percentage of all three nutrients in breakfast was quite lower as compared to other time of consuming, however in dinner all of those were taken more accessibly in USA.

At dinner time, the sodium, saturated fat and added sugar account for 43%, 37% and 23% respectively, while in breakfast all of these were recorded at its least 14%, 16% and 16% added sugar.

In terms of lunch sodium is consumed mostly and represents 29% of the proportion in sodium, consequently, the percentage of snack in added sugar was 42% which is the double of the snack in saturated fat and more than thrice of the total snack in sodium which is about 14% recorded.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features of the charts. You successfully highlight the trends for dinner and breakfast, and make relevant comparisons, such as noting that dinner has the highest percentages for all three nutrients. However, the analysis of the snack category is slightly confusing in its phrasing, particularly the comparison regarding the 'double' and 'thrice' values. While you have selected the key features, the report could be improved by ensuring the data comparisons are presented more clearly to the reader. Overall, the response is accurate in its data representation and meets the requirements of the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs focusing on specific meal times. There is a clear progression of ideas throughout the text. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In terms of', 'consequently', and 'while', which help to link your points. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing in the final paragraph is a bit clunky, which impacts the flow. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that the relationship between sentences is always smooth and natural.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'nutrients', and 'respectively'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'taken more accessibly' (which is not standard English) and 'normal food' instead of 'typical meals'. Additionally, there are minor errors in phrasing, such as 'the pie charts illustrates' (subject-verb agreement). While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise academic collocations would be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'the pie charts illustrates' (subject-verb agreement), 'if uses more than' (passive voice error), and 'at its least 14%' (preposition/article usage). While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding the information provided. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and prepositions. Increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences will help you achieve a higher score in this criterion.
