The charts below show the average percentages in typical meals of three types of nutrients, all of which may be unhealthy if eaten too much.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 7.0)

The 3 pie charts illustrate the average percentage of sodium, saturated fats and added sugar in typical meals consumed in the USA.

Overall, dinner showed the highest percentage of sodium and saturated fats presence, while having second highest percentage of added sugars. On the other hand, breakfast recorded the lowest percentage of all three nutrients with varying values.

For sodium and satureted fats, dinner scored the highest percentage with 43% sodium and 37% saturated fats , followed by lunch at 29% and 26%, respectively. While snacks and breakfast were amongst the lowest in content of sodium at 14% each. Similarly, snacks and breakfast were the lowest in content of saturated fat. However, they had a higher percentage than sodium, with 21% for snacks and 16% for breakfast.

As for added sugar, snacks made up 42% of the meals containing added sugar, while dinner came in second at 23%. Finally, lunch and breakfast were considerably similar in values, accounting for 19% and 16%.
