Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the prompt by summarising the data regarding sodium, saturated fat, and added sugar in typical US meals. However, the information is presented in a very fragmented and confusing manner. For instance, the student writes 'in nutrients of sodium 14% is covered by snacks and breakfast' which incorrectly groups two distinct categories together. Furthermore, some figures provided do not accurately reflect standard chart interpretation for Task 1, showing underdeveloped comparisons and missing an effective overview of the main trends. While the student identifies that dinner is a major contributor, the overall reporting lacks clarity, leading to a Band 5 performance for this criterion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The organisation of the text is hindered by poor paragraphing and a lack of clear logical progression. The response begins with a very short introduction followed by a single massive, cluttered body paragraph and a weak concluding sentence. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, such as 'after coming towards saturated fat' and 'Last but not least'. Referencing and linking between ideas are frequently faulty, creating a jerky reading experience. Although there is some basic sequencing of the nutrients, the overall structure lacks the clear progression expected at higher bands, resulting in a Band 4.5, rounded to 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, featuring frequent word choice errors and awkward phrasing such as 'average ratio', 'eaten very much', and 'dinner contails less by 37%'. There are also spelling and typographical issues throughout the text, including lowercase sentence beginnings ('at a glance', 'llunch'), missing letters ('contails'), and run-together words ('vsnacks'). While the student attempts to name the categories (sodium, saturated fat, added sugar), the limited range and lack of precision in discussing data points restrict the score to a Band 4.5, rounded to 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

Grammatical control is weak throughout the response. The text contains numerous errors in sentence structure, punctuation, and subject-verb agreement, such as 'most of ratio is covered' and 'there are three different nutrients are sodium'. Punctuation is neglected at the start of sentences, and complex structures are either absent or faulty (e.g., 'as compare to others'). Simple sentences often lack correct syntactic shape, and errors frequently cause strain and confusion for the reader. This demonstrates a limited range of structures commensurate with a Band 4.0.
