Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The student attempts to address all parts of the visual data by mentioning sodium, saturated fats, and added sugars across breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. However, the report contains several inaccurate figures and confusing comparative statements. For instance, the text claims that 'about 45% added sugar was included in snack', whereas the charts indicate snacks contain 14% of certain nutrients, and the 45% figure actually applies to sodium at dinner. Furthermore, phrasing like 'saturated fat were responsible for 21% and 16 respectively' lacks clarity and contains a missing unit. While the main features are partially outlined, the data is frequently misinterpreted or inaccurately cited, pulling the score into the lower range.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is divided into four paragraphs, attempting an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by confusing references and inaccurate data interpretation. Cohesive devices are attempted using words like 'Overall', 'After analyzing', 'Furthermore', and 'However', but they are often mechanically applied or do not accurately signal the logical relationship between sentences. For example, 'Hence, about 45% added sugar was included in snack' fails to logically connect to the preceding sentence about sodium. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion is weak due to disjointed phrasing and abrupt transitions.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently relying on simple terms such as 'proportion', 'food', 'nutrients', and 'percentile'. There are also numerous lexical and collocational inaccuracies, such as 'USA people' instead of 'Americans', 'dinner time which has largest share among other', and 'sodium has similar percentile'. The use of 'percentile' is mathematically incorrect in this context; 'percentage' or 'proportion' should be used. The range of vocabulary is limited and minimally adequate for the task, with noticeable errors in word choice and phrasing that occasionally impede understanding.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar and punctuation is weak. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement and preposition use, such as 'all unhealthy food were eaten', 'in snack and breakfast saturated fat were responsible', and 'in the sank and breakfast'. Punctuation is also problematic, marked by unnecessary spaces before commas and periods (e.g., 'sodium ,', 'whereas ,'). Complex structures often contain errors that cause difficulty for the reader, such as the dangling and tangled clauses in the third and fourth paragraphs.
