Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to cover the data from the charts regarding sodium, saturated fats, and added sugars in typical US meals across breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. However, the selection of main features is poorly executed. The text contains some inaccurate reporting of the data, such as claiming that added sugar is 23% at dinner (which is correct) but missing the key overarching trends, such as the fact that dinner dominates sodium (43%) and saturated fat (37%), while snacks dominate added sugar (42%). Furthermore, the response is written as a single, massive run-on paragraph, which hinders clear reporting and comparison of the visual information. Because the ideas are underdeveloped and the overview lacks clarity, the response meets the criteria for Band 5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The text suffers from a major structural flaw: it consists of one single, long paragraph without any paragraph breaks or logical partitioning of information. There is no introduction, body paragraph structure, or concluding summary. Cohesive devices are weak and repetitive, relying heavily on strings of connectors like 'however', 'althogh', and 'and even' to link clauses within a giant, unbroken sentence. Referential clarity is frequently lost because pronouns and transitions do not guide the reader smoothly through the data comparisons. This organization level clearly aligns with Band 4.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is very limited and repetitive, with numerous spelling and word-choice errors that impede comprehension (e.g., 'usa' instead of 'USA', 'diffrent' instead of 'different', 'dieat' instead of 'diet', 'contain' instead of 'content', 'dinnar' instead of 'dinner', 'nurtional' instead of 'nutritional', 'compansate' instead of 'compensate', 'healther' instead of 'healthier', 'balnced' instead of 'balanced'). While the student attempts to use some topic-related vocabulary like 'nutrition', 'percentage', and 'sodium', the high frequency of basic spelling mistakes and awkward phrasing keeps the lexical level firmly at Band 4.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The grammatical range is severely restricted by the complete absence of proper sentence boundaries, punctuation, and capitalisation. The entire response is a single, uninterrupted run-on sentence spanning 190 words, driven by comma splices and conjunction overload. There is a lack of control over complex structures, and frequent basic grammatical errors (e.g., 'the number of any nurtional value were', 'the ratio of having sodium is deducted', 'individual choose') cause significant difficulty for the reader. This falls short of Band 5 due to the total lack of punctuation and sentence demarcation, placing it at Band 4.
