Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The response attempts to summarise the data, but it contains several inaccuracies in data interpretation. For instance, the writer states that dinner time represents the 'maximum number of people consumed', which confuses the percentage of nutrients in meals with the number of people. Furthermore, the length requirement of 150 words is not met, as the response contains only 139 words, which results in a penalty under Task Achievement. While some main features are mentioned, such as dinner having the highest percentages of sodium and saturated fat, the overall overview is confused and lacks clarity.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical flow and progression are weak. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or incorrectly, such as 'However, saturated fat and added sugar were similar level consumed' and 'On the otherhand, snack also at 14%'. Referencing is frequently unclear, and the mechanical transitions do not successfully guide the reader through the comparisons. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal organisation of ideas within paragraphs is disjointed.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with noticeable errors in word choice and collocation. For example, using 'maximum number of people consumed' instead of proportion or percentage, and 'intaked' instead of 'intaken' or 'consumed'. There is also a spelling and form error in 'slighted increased'. The lexical range is limited and minimally adequate for the task, causing some confusion for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The grammatical structures are predominantly simple or attempted complex sentences that contain frequent errors. Examples include 'The chart present', where there is a subject-verb agreement error, and 'whereby, slightly included sodium in breakfast', which lacks a clear subject and verb. Punctuation is also problematic in places, such as spacing errors around commas. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader, though the core meaning can generally be inferred.
