Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The student attempts to address the prompt by discussing the proportions of sodium, saturated fat, and added sugar in meals across different times of the day. However, the response is severely incomplete, cutting off abruptly after only three sentences and listing just a few figures (43% and 37% for dinner). Crucially, the response fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 150 words, containing only 85 words. Because the overview is incomplete and major details from the charts are missing, the response falls into Band 4.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The text attempts a logical structure by starting with an introductory overview followed by body points using transition signals like 'Overall' and 'Firstly'. However, the abrupt cutoff hinders paragraphing and overall progression. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or incorrectly, such as 'In which nutrients ratio flactuates' and 'while snack is reach in added sugar'. Due to the lack of completion and mechanical referencing, the response meets the criteria for Band 5.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary demonstrates a limited range relevant to the topic, including words like 'nutrients', 'sodium', 'saturated fat', and 'breakfast'. However, there are numerous spelling and word choice errors throughout the short text, such as 'suager' for sugar, 'disturbe' for disturbing, 'dailybase' for daily, 'flactuates' for fluctuates, and 'reach' for rich. These lexical inaccuracies and non-standard forms constrain the expression of ideas, placing the response firmly at Band 5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The student attempts some complex structures, such as in the opening sentence ('The pie chart illustrates overuse of sodium...'). However, this sentence is heavily overburdened and grammatically incorrect. There are frequent errors in verb forms and prepositions, including 'if consume' instead of 'if consumed', 'human eat' instead of 'humans eat', and missing verbs in the final sentence ('Firstly dinner contain larger amount'). These persistent errors in basic grammatical structures result in a Band 5 score.
