Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response successfully covers all three nutrients shown in the charts (sodium, saturated fat, and added sugar) across all four meal categories (breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack). The student reports the main figures correctly, such as 43% for dinner sodium and 42% for snack added sugar. However, the overview is weak and heavily integrated into a confusing block of text rather than being distinctly stated. While the data points are accurately identified and basic comparisons are attempted (e.g., noting that snacks have the highest added sugar), the lack of clear structuring and analytical overview limits the response to Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The essay lacks proper paragraphing and organization. It begins with an introduction-like sentence ('The charts compares...'), followed by three long, monotonous sentences listing data item-by-item, and a final concluding sentence. There is a heavy reliance on repetitive cohesive phrases like 'they given' and 'in the...'. Cohesive devices are either missing or misused, resulting in a run-on structure that lacks logical progression. Paragraphing is virtually non-existent, as the entire body of data is crammed together. This places the response firmly at Band 4.0 for coherence and cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is very basic, repetitive, and heavily relies on lifting terms directly from the prompt, such as 'sodium nutrients', 'saturated fat', and 'added sugar'. Phrases like 'they given' are repeated constantly throughout the text. There is almost no attempt to use less common vocabulary or paraphrasing. Word choice and collocation are frequently awkward or unidiomatic (e.g., 'saturated fast' instead of 'saturated fat', 'Sodium Nutrients in the sodium nutrients'). While communication is just about maintained, the vocabulary is limited and repetitive, corresponding to a Band 4.5 score, rounded here to 4.0 based on the descriptors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

The response displays a very limited range of grammatical structures. Most sentences are long, unpunctuated run-on sentences joined inappropriately by commas (comma splices), such as '...in snacks there are 14%,and in breakfast 14%,and in dinner it is 43%...'. There are persistent errors in subject-verb agreement and preposition use (e.g., 'The charts compares', 'in the snacks there are', 'saturated fast'). Complex structures are attempted through coordination rather than subordination, and frequent grammatical errors cause strain for the reader. This performance aligns with Band 4.0.
