Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response attempts to summarise the charts regarding sodium, saturated fats, and added sugars in typical meals in the USA. However, the student severely misreads the data from the visual. For instance, the text claims that 'dinner represented 43 percent... followed by snacks... 42 percent', and that 'lunch and breakfast each constituted 16 percent', completely confusing the three different charts and their separate values (e.g., sodium dinner is 43%, but added sugar snack is 42%). Furthermore, the length requirement of at least 150 words is not met, as the response contains only 146 words. Due to these significant data inaccuracies and the failure to meet the minimum length requirement, the task achievement is heavily compromised.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response is written as a single dense paragraph, lacking proper paragraphing to structure the introduction, overview, and body details. Cohesive devices are mechanically used and often faulty in punctuation and capitalization, such as 'overall, Dinner...', 'whereas , breakfast...', and 'while lunch also represented relatively smallest ratio .looking at the details...'. The logical progression is difficult to follow because referencing between sentences is unclear, and the ideas blur together without adequate separation or clear transitions. The mechanical layout and flawed cohesion pull this criterion down to the lower bands.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with frequent awkward phrasings and word choices, such as 'proportion of distinct food in three forms mainly sodium', 'relatively smallest ratio', and 'nutients consumed'. There are numerous spelling and typographical errors, including spacing issues before punctuation ('nutrients consumed ,whereas , breakfast') and missing capitalization at the beginning of sentences ('overall, Dinner...'). The range of vocabulary is limited and inadequate for a precise discussion of statistical data, occasionally causing confusion for the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The text displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are persistent punctuation and capitalization errors throughout the text, such as missing capital letters at the start of sentences ('overall, Dinner...', 'overall the figures indicate...'), lack of spaces after periods, and incorrect comma placement. Sentences are often run-on or awkwardly fragmented, such as 'This was followed by snacks, which accounted for 42 percent .Together these categories accounted for 85 percent of total nutrients consumed in the USA.' These frequent grammatical and mechanical errors noticeably impede smooth reading.
