Student answer (Band 5.0)

The pie charts illustrates the nutrients including sodium, saturated fat and sugar average rate in the three types of standard meals which if consume more than not beneficial for health.

Overall, all three nutrients consumed the most in dinner and snack, while there is no notable change in consumption data on other two typical meals lunch and dinner.

People consume sodium and saturated fat in in dinner with 43% and 37% which is highest and in lunch with 29 and 26 percent is next high number in data after dinner consumption.

Added sugar is consumed 23% in dinner and 19% in lunch which is relatively lower than other nutrients.

In snack people consumed 42% added sugar which is far more than other nutrients in it. all three nutrients are lesser in breakfast than other typical meal where added sugar and saturated fat are 16% and sodium is only 14% which is relatively less then other meals

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The student covers all parts of the task by reporting the main features of the charts, which depict the average percentages of sodium, saturated fat, and added sugar in typical meals in the USA. An overview is attempted, stating that nutrients are consumed mostly at dinner and snacks. However, the overview is somewhat inaccurate regarding lunch and dinner data, and the grouping of meals is slightly confused in the wording ('other two typical meals lunch and dinner'). Key data points are generally accurate, such as highlighting the 43% for sodium at dinner and 42% for added sugar in snacks. Data selection is mostly appropriate, though the organisation of comparisons could be more precise. The response reaches the word count minimum and addresses the visual information adequately, placing it within Band 5.5 to 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a coherent overall arrangement, attempting to separate ideas into distinct sentences and paragraphs. However, paragraphing and logical progression are weak; the paragraphs are clumped together with abrupt transitions. Cohesive devices are minimal and sometimes faulty, such as 'in in dinner' and repetitive phrasing ('is consumed', 'in dinner and in lunch'). Referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly when contrasting meals. The sequencing of information jumps between nutrients and meals without a clear structure, which impacts the overall flow of the response. This performance aligns with Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms like 'nutrients', 'sodium', 'saturated fat', 'added sugar', and 'consumption'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'average rate', 'if consume more than not beneficial', and 'next high number in data'. Word formation and collocations are occasionally inaccurate ('is lesser in breakfast than other typical meal'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the basic meaning, these repeated inaccuracies and limited flexibility restrict the score to Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent grammatical errors, missing articles, and awkward prepositional uses, such as 'The pie charts illustrates' (subject-verb agreement), 'in in dinner', and 'which is relatively less then other meals' (spelling of 'than' and comparative structure). Many complex structures are faulty or run-on, causing some difficulty for the reader to parse the exact relationships between clauses. Punctuation is also sparse. These persistent errors place the grammar firmly in the Band 5.0 category.
