Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The student successfully addresses the main features of all three charts, providing an overview and comparing the proportions of sodium, saturated fats, and added sugars across the four meal times. The figures are accurately reported overall, such as noting that dinner accounts for 43% of sodium and snacks make up 42% of added sugar. However, there are minor numerical slips in the final body paragraph where 'dinner at 16%' is repeated or misattributed (since breakfast was 16% for added sugar). The overview captures the main trends well by highlighting that dinner and lunch dominate sodium and saturated fats, whereas snacks dominate added sugar. This performance corresponds to a solid Band 6.5 or 7.0 for Task Achievement, as all parts are addressed with relevant supporting data.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response is arranged logically into four paragraphs: an introduction, an overview, a body paragraph covering sodium and saturated fat, a body paragraph covering added sugar, and a brief conclusion. Cohesive devices are used to guide the reader through the data, such as 'Looking at sodium first', 'This trend carries with', and 'When i comes to added sugar'. However, paragraphing and punctuation are slightly disjointed, and there are mechanical errors in referencing and transitions. The conclusion is also quite weak and repetitive. Overall organisation is coherent, but the lack of precise cohesive control keeps this criterion at a Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary for the task, using appropriate terms like 'proportion', 'contributors', 'distribution', and 'consumption'. However, there are numerous spelling errors throughout the text ('propoation', 'satuarated', 'suger', 'thier', 'ocations', 'ammount', 'kargest', 'sharwe', 'prtion', 'follwed', 'distrubution', 'conculution'), as well as minor lexical slips ('breakfast and snack makes'). While these errors do not impede communication since the overall meaning is still clear, their high frequency prevents the score from reaching Band 6.0, placing it firmly at Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The response attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as relative clauses and comparative structures. There are several grammatical errors and punctuation lapses, including subject-verb agreement issues ('Breakfast and snack makes', 'three main meals make up for most of sodium... consumtion'), missing capitalization ('in conculution'), and typos in prepositional phrases ('When i comes to'). Despite these flaws, the structures are varied enough to convey the data accurately, and meaning is rarely obscured. This level of grammatical control fits the Band 6 descriptor well.
