Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response attempts to summarise the visual data regarding sodium, saturated fat, and added sugar consumption across different meals in the USA. While the student identifies some key data points (such as dinner having the highest sodium at 43% and snacks having the highest added sugar at 42%), the overall response lacks a clear, coherent overview of the main trends. Furthermore, there are several misinterpretations and inaccurate data linkages throughout the text, such as stating that 'sodium used breackfast and snack almost same 14%' and getting confused about meal categories. The attempt to provide task fulfillment is heavily hindered by the confusing delivery of the numerical facts, resulting in a score that falls into Band 4.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The organisation of the text is extremely weak. Although the response is broken into paragraphs, the internal progression of ideas is disjointed and hard to follow. Cohesive devices are either missing, repetitive, or inaccurate, with phrases like 'first of all', 'Another is added sugar', and 'other added sugar used' failing to create a natural logical flow. There is a frequent lack of punctuation or proper sentence boundaries, leading to massive run-on sentences that make reading difficult. Referencing between pronouns and the data points is unclear throughout the essay. This overall structural deficiency aligns with Band 4.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is very basic, repetitive, and heavily flawed. The student frequently misuses words or spells them incorrectly, such as 'illestrat' for illustrate, 'everage' for average, 'sodiom' for sodium, 'suger' for sugar, 'breackfast' for breakfast, and 'dicrase' for decrease. There is virtually no successful use of less common lexical items, and word choices are often completely unnatural (e.g., 'most harm full food in our body we are mixed and eat'). The limited control over basic spelling and word formation severely constrains communication, placing this response at Band 4.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
Grammatical control is extremely poor throughout the response. There is a complete absence of accurate complex sentence structures, and even simple sentence constructions are plagued by major errors, missing verbs, and non-standard syntax (e.g., 'the illestrat everage percentages in typical meals of three types of nutrient all of food unhealthy if you eaten much more'). Punctuation is largely non-existent, resulting in run-on clauses connected by commas or conjunctions improperly. Verb tenses and forms are badly mishandled (e.g., 'we are eat', 'suger use', 'if we are can not control'). These constant, severe grammatical errors place the response firmly at Band 4.0.
