Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features of the charts and providing some comparisons. For instance, the student correctly identifies that dinner has the highest share of sodium at 43% and that added sugar peaks in snacks at 42%. However, some parts of the response are under-developed or lack sufficient extension, such as the treatment of lunch, which is only covered in a single brief sentence. While an overview is provided stating that the three typical meals have a substantial share of these nutrients, the selection and reporting of data could be more thoroughly balanced across all categories.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The text presents a coherent overall arrangement, grouping information by meals and nutrient types, which creates a logical structure. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. The student attempts to use transition signals and cohesive devices, but expressions like 'For the snacks the added sugar hold the biggest part' and 'Howerever, The sodium take in' feel awkward and disrupt the smooth progression of ideas. Paragraphing is also somewhat fragmented, with several very short paragraphs that could be better combined or organized to improve the overall flow of the report.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully communicating basic ideas about the charts, such as 'average rate percentage' and 'substantial share'. However, there are numerous noticeable lexical errors in word choice, spelling, and word form, including 'nutriention' instead of nutrients, 'substaintial' instead of substantial, and non-standard collocations like 'consumtion percentage' and 'eaten percentag'. Furthermore, attempts to use less common vocabulary result in inaccuracies that occasionally cause strain, though communication is not severely impeded.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing demonstrates a limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside a few attempts at complex forms. There are frequent grammatical errors involving subject-verb agreement ('the added sugar hold', 'the sodium take in'), missing articles ('in USA', 'For the snacks'), and incorrect prepositions. Punctuation errors, such as spaces before commas, are also present. These errors do not entirely obscure the meaning, but they occur frequently enough to indicate a lack of control over more complex grammatical patterns.
