Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features of the charts and making relevant comparisons. You provide a clear overview at the beginning, noting that dinner accounts for the highest intake of sodium and fats, while snacks lead in added sugars, and breakfast is consistently the lowest. The details for each category are well selected and supported by accurate figures from the charts, such as 43% for sodium at dinner and 42% for snacks regarding added sugar. While the comparisons are clear and logically presented, the reporting tends to list data point by point rather than fully synthesising all the relationships, which prevents the response from reaching the highest tier. Overall, the information is accurately extracted and covers every chart adequately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay has a clear, logical organisation and progression throughout. You make effective use of paragraphing, devoting separate paragraphs to an introduction, an overall statement, and individual analyses for sodium, saturated fat, and added sugars. Cohesive devices are employed reasonably well to guide the reader through the data, using phrases like 'Looking first at', 'A similar pattern can be seen in', and 'However, the pattern for'. Although referencing and transitions are mostly smooth, some cohesion feels slightly mechanical due to repetitive sentence openings across the body paragraphs. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate each nutrient category clearly, ensuring the overall arrangement remains coherent and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying the statistical information with appropriate terms such as 'proportions', 'intake', 'share', and 'pattern'. You make some attempts to use less common vocabulary, though there are minor inaccuracies in word choice and spelling. For instance, 'illustartes' contains a typo, 'luch' is misspelled, and phrases like 'accounts 21%' lack the necessary preposition 'for'. Additionally, words like 'highets' reflect minor spelling lapses that do not impede communication but show a lack of precise control. To improve further, focus on accurate spelling and ensure collocations and prepositions associated with statistical verbs and nouns are used correctly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, successfully employing structures such as dependent clauses and comparative constructions like 'whereas dinner contributes...'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, particularly missing commas and minor typographical slips in agreement, but they rarely impede communication. Examples include minor typographical issues like 'agians' and occasional slight awkwardness in clause punctuation. Control over basic structures is generally sound, and the majority of sentences remain clear and understandable. To move to a higher band, incorporate a wider variety of error-free complex structures and ensure careful proofreading of punctuation and article usage.
