Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response addresses the task only minimally, failing to meet the minimum word requirement of 150 words by 13 words (not counting the 14 words copied directly from the prompt). While the writer attempts to report data from the charts, the selection of features is incomplete and confused. Key figures are mentioned, such as dinner sodium at 43% and added sugar for snacks at 42%, but the reporting is disjointed and fails to provide a clear, well-supported overview. The position is unclear and details are inadequately developed, limiting the overall effectiveness of the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
Information and ideas are not arranged coherently. The text is broken into short, choppy paragraphs with a lack of logical progression. Cohesive devices are either missing or misused, resulting in abrupt transitions between sentences and ideas (for example, 'afterthat, it saturated fat snack was...'). Referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the intended comparisons across the three nutrients. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal structure of the paragraphs fails to guide the reader through the data in a logical or structured manner.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, employing a limited range that struggles to adequately describe the statistical data. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as 'grater change' and 'luch', which reflect weak control of word form and spelling. While communication is occasionally achieved, the limited range and frequent inaccuracies constrain the precision required for an academic task, restricting the response to a foundational level of lexical performance.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The grammatical range is very limited, relying heavily on simple structures and basic sentence patterns. Attempts at more complex structures frequently result in faulty syntax, missing verbs, and non-standard phrasing, such as 'when sodium added in a dinner for 43% in USA its the highest percentage'. Errors in prepositions, subject-verb agreement, and punctuation are frequent and often distort the meaning, causing considerable difficulty for the reader in parsing the intended grammatical relationships.
