Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features and making comparisons across the three pie charts regarding sodium, saturated fat, and added sugar in typical US meals. An overall trend is attempted at the beginning of the second paragraph, noting the presence of three charts. However, some parts of the task are developed more fully than others; for instance, the description of added sugar highlights that snack is the largest at 42% and breakfast is the least at 16%, but the relationships and comparisons between meals lack clarity in places, and some data descriptions are slightly confused or under-developed. To reach a higher level, the response would need to present a more cohesive and fully developed overview, ensuring all key data points are clearly contextualised and compared without repetitive or unclear phrasing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The writing exhibits a coherent overall arrangement by separating the charts into distinct paragraphs, beginning with an introduction and moving through sodium, saturated fat, and added sugar. However, cohesion is frequently mechanical and faulty. Transitional devices are used awkwardly or incorrectly, such as starting paragraphs with "Firstly," "On the other hand," and "in the part," which disrupts the logical flow. Furthermore, referencing is not always clear, with pronouns and relational phrases like "both are not same" or "to constant" creating confusion. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal logical progression within paragraphs lacks smoothness and precise cohesive ties, keeping the organizational quality at this level.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with frequent lexical errors that impede smooth reading. There are numerous misspellings and incorrect word choices throughout the text, such as "nutrents" instead of nutrients, "unhealthy" used as an adverb or adjective in awkward structures ("eaten heavy" or "unhealthy eaten to much"), "Saturted" for saturated, "constrat" for contrast, and "tottaly differenr" for totally different. The student attempts less common vocabulary items like "ratio" and "percentage," but these attempts are often marred by inappropriate collocation and word forms. To improve, the writer needs to expand their vocabulary range, pay closer attention to word forms, and eliminate spelling mistakes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The text demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple descriptive sentences that frequently break down due to structural errors. There are frequent issues with subject-verb agreement, missing articles, incorrect prepositions, and faulty clause structures, such as "The Pie chart illustrate" instead of illustrates, "There are three different pie chart. such as," and "And then, on based saturated fat next is minimum biggest lunch 26%." Punctuation and sentence boundaries are also mishandled, with fragments and run-on ideas impairing readability. While some basic sentences are formed, the density of grammatical errors across simple and attempted complex forms causes noticeable difficulty for the reader.
