Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the task only partially and fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 150 words, falling short at 147 words after excluding copied rubric text. While the writer attempts to select and report main features from the charts, the coverage is limited and repetitive. Key data points are presented, such as dinner accounting for 43% of sodium and snacks making up 42% of added sugars, but the overall summary lacks a clear, fully developed overview. Furthermore, much of the text relies heavily on awkward repetition of non-standard phrasing rather than synthesising the comparative trends requested in the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is some basic organisation with separate sentences and paragraphs attempting to discuss individual nutrients, but the text lacks a clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are largely inadequate, repetitive, or inaccurate, relying on simplistic transitions or missing links entirely. The paragraphing is disjointed, and referencing between ideas is frequently unclear, making the logical flow difficult to follow. For instance, jumping abruptly between sodium, saturated fat, and added sugars without proper introductory signposts hinders the overall readability of the response.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The lexical range is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer relies heavily on rudimentary, repetitive vocabulary and non-standard collocations, such as repeatedly using the word 'mealing' where 'meal' or 'consumption' would be appropriate. There are also noticeable word-choice and spelling errors, such as 'hamrful' and 'lesat', which cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a weak control of word forms and spelling at this level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response displays a very limited range of sentence structures, consisting mostly of simple sentences with frequent attempts at complex or relative clauses that are faulty. There are persistent errors in articles, prepositions, subject-verb agreement, and fragments, such as 'Snack and breakfast is least common mealing sodium item' and 'These types of nutrients which may be unhealthy'. These frequent grammatical errors cause significant difficulty for the reader and prevent the response from achieving a higher band.
