Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Average percentages of sodium, saturated fats and added sugars in typical meals consumed in the USA
Student answer (Band 5.0)
The given bar charts illustrates proportions for three different nutrients used in the meals by people at USA, Moreover data for meals is distributed in four different times.
Overview, the sodium and saturateed fat is consumed with high persentage in dinnner time, whereas added sugar are likely taken with form of snack. However, other time period for this three is mostly hafe of the data.
Loking at the figures, dinner time period cover highest proportions by Sodium and Saturated fat, with all most 43% and 37% simutaniously. Beside it the snack and breakfast are the time period where this both is eat in less persentag, 14% by sodium in both, while 21% and 16% in saturated fat.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main pattern accurately: dinner has the highest shares of sodium and saturated fat, while snacks account for the largest proportion of added sugar. The figures you give for dinner (43% and 37%) and snack sugar (42%) match the chart. However, the report is incomplete: it ends mid-sentence at “The least amount is con…”, so the added-sugar comparison is not finished, and lunch receives little attention. The statement that the other periods are “mostly half of the data” is unclear and not supported by the figures. The response also falls 9 words short of the required minimum. To strengthen coverage, complete the final comparison and report the key lunch and breakfast figures clearly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction to an overview and then to details about sodium, saturated fat and added sugar. This gives the reader some sense of organisation. However, progression is weakened by unclear links and the unfinished final sentence, which leaves the report without a complete ending. Connectors such as “Beside it” and “On the other hand” do not clearly express the relationships between the comparisons, and “However” in the overview introduces an idea that is difficult to follow. The paragraphing is useful, but the information would be easier to track if each paragraph compared the meal categories consistently and the final paragraph were completed.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “proportions,” “highest,” “least amount” and “intake,” and the reader can generally identify the nutrients and meals being compared. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation and spelling errors make parts difficult to understand: “saturateed,” “persentage,” “simutaniously” and “hafe” are examples. Phrases such as “used in the meals” and “taken with form of snack” are also unnatural for describing nutrient shares. Aim for accurate, conventional expressions such as “the proportion of sodium in dinner” and “accounted for.” Proofreading spelling and choosing precise chart language would make your comparisons clearer.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast in “whereas added sugar…” and a participial phrase beginning “Loking at the figures.” However, grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes make relationships unclear. For example, “The given bar charts illustrates” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “the sodium and saturateed fat is consumed” uses incorrect agreement and an awkward passive construction. “Added sugar are” also has faulty agreement, and several phrases lack necessary articles or have unclear sentence structure. The final sentence is incomplete. Practise building accurate comparison sentences with plural and singular subjects, for example, “Dinner accounts for 43% of sodium intake, compared with 37% of saturated fat.”
