Student answer (Band 6.0)

The pie charts depicts the average proportions of sodium, saturated fats and added sugars in typical meals consumed in the USA.

Overall, there are considerable quantities of sodium and saturated fat in dinner, and added sugar in snack. Those three nutrients are almost in the same amount in breakfast that is the lowest among all of the meals.

During dinner, sodium is consumed 43% that is the highest among all nutrients, whereas saturated fat is 37%, and added sugar is 23% only. Additionally, in breakfast, sodium, saturated fat and added sugar are consumed in almost same proportions that are 14%, 16% and 16% respectively which are the lowest among all of the meals.

Furthermore, in snack, added sugar accounts for the highest proportion, 42% among all nutrients, whereas saturated fat accounts for 21%, and sodium 14% only. Moreover, in lunch, sodium is consumed in the highest amount that is 29%, saturated fat 26%, and added sugar 19%.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You cover all three nutrients and all four meals, and the figures you report match the chart. The overview identifies the main contrasts: dinner has the largest shares of sodium and saturated fat, while snacks lead for added sugar; breakfast is low across the nutrients. This accurate selection and reporting fully meets the core requirements and shows some of the stronger feature selection expected above this level. However, the overview could be more precise by noting that dinner is also the highest meal for sodium and saturated fat, while added sugar peaks in snacks. The response is 143 words, below the 150-word minimum; develop the comparisons slightly further, for example by contrasting lunch with dinner or snacks.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs grouping the meal comparisons. This makes the information easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Additionally,” and “Furthermore” signal progression. However, the organisation is somewhat mechanical because several sentences repeat the same pattern of listing three percentages, and “Moreover” introduces lunch without a particularly strong connection to the preceding snack comparison. The overview also repeats points that are then detailed below. To make the progression more flexible, group the meals by their main pattern—for example, dinner and snacks as contrasting peaks—then use the final paragraph for breakfast and lunch.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of chart vocabulary, including “proportions,” “accounts for,” and “highest proportion,” and the meaning remains clear throughout. Some choices are less natural or precise, such as “considerable quantities” for percentages and “consumed 43%,” which does not clearly express a share of a meal. Repeated use of “highest,” “amount,” and “proportion” also limits flexibility. Aim for more accurate collocations and vary the language used to describe shares, while keeping the wording concise. For example, “sodium makes up 43% of dinner” is clearer than “sodium is consumed 43%.” These occasional word-choice and collocation issues fit the current level, but more consistent precision would strengthen the report.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use both simple and complex sentence forms, including a contrast with “whereas” and a relative clause in “which are the lowest among all of the meals.” Most sentences communicate the intended comparisons, but some grammatical errors remain. The opening “The pie charts depicts” has subject–verb disagreement; use “depict.” In “sodium is consumed 43%,” the passive construction is incomplete for the intended meaning; a structure such as “43% of sodium is consumed at dinner” would be grammatical. The clause “breakfast, that is the lowest” also needs a more suitable relative construction, such as “breakfast, which has the lowest proportions.” Greater control of agreement and clause structure, alongside the range already attempted, would improve accuracy.
