Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the three nutrients and report the main overall contrast correctly: dinner has the highest shares of sodium and saturated fat, while snacks lead for added sugar. The figures of 43%, 37% and 42% are accurate. However, the report is very brief and covers only a few chart details; it omits useful comparisons such as breakfast’s low sodium share (14%) and the relative figures for lunch and snacks. The phrase “highly consumed” also makes the data sound like amounts eaten rather than percentages of each nutrient across meals. The response is 66 words below the required minimum, which leaves the task only minimally addressed. Include a fuller overview and compare the remaining meal figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening sentence introduces the charts, an overview follows, and the final section gives selected figures. “Overall” and “In contrast” help signal the main comparison, so the reader can follow the central point. However, the response has little progression beyond repeating that dinner is highest for two nutrients and snacks for one. The final paragraph largely restates the overview rather than developing it with further comparisons, and the transition “turning to the imforation” does not clearly guide the reader. Use separate, purposeful paragraphs and connect details by meal or nutrient, avoiding repetition and adding comparisons such as lunch versus breakfast.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic but includes relevant chart terms such as “proportion,” “sodium,” “saturated fat” and “added sugar.” These choices make the topic identifiable, and “In contrast” is a useful comparison phrase. However, the range is limited and some wording is inaccurate or unnatural: “highly consumed” is repeated and does not describe a percentage share clearly, while “consumed by USA” is an awkward collocation. There are also spelling errors, including “pai” and “imforation,” which reduce clarity. Aim for precise reporting language and vary it, for example, describe a meal as “accounting for” a share or having the “largest proportion,” rather than saying a nutrient is highly consumed.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response relies mainly on short, simple statements, with little variety in sentence structure. Several errors are frequent enough to make the writing less clear: “The pai chart illustrate” has a subject–verb agreement error, and the opening phrase “in typical meals consumed in the USA three types of nutrients” lacks a clear grammatical connection. Articles and sentence boundaries are also inconsistent, as in “In sodium dinner at 43%,” which is a fragment rather than a complete comparison. The overview sentence is more understandable, but punctuation around the list is uneven. Practise complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, such as “Dinner accounts for 43% of sodium intake,” and use a small range of accurate comparison structures.
