Average percentages of sodium, saturated fats and added sugars in typical meals consumed in the USA
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The given pie chart demonstare the information about the average percentage in typical meals of three different types of nutrients, which may be unhealthy if eaten too much. The data are categorized in to four types ( e.g. breakfast, lunch, snack and dinner).
Overall, dinner accounted for the highest figure in sodium and saturared fat, while snack contribute at the highest percentage in added sugar. In contrast breakfast generally has lowest propostion in nutrients among the three types.
Looking first at sodium and saturated fat, dinner accounts for the the highest propostion with 43% and 37%, respectively .Lunch stood at the second position with the percentage of 29 in sodium and 26% in sturated.By comparison breakfast and snack were the lowest category in sodium with 14%, respesctively, while 16% of breakfast and 21% of snacks in fat.
Turning to the added sugar, snack becomes the highest figure with 42%, followed by dinner which stood at 23%.Lunch occupied the next position with 19%.Moreover breakfast accounted for the lowest of among with 16% in total.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You identify the main patterns accurately: dinner has the largest shares of sodium and saturated fat, while snacks lead in added sugar. The figures you report—43% and 37% for dinner, and 42% for snack sugar—match the chart, and you compare the meal categories across the nutrients. The overview also notes breakfast’s generally low contribution, which is supported by the data, although breakfast and snacks tie for the lowest sodium share. To make the report more complete, state that added sugar is the exception to the dinner-led pattern and clarify the breakfast/snack tie rather than describing breakfast as simply the lowest. The response selects relevant features and supports them with figures, though some comparisons could be expressed more precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs grouping sodium with saturated fat and then discussing added sugar. This makes the main progression easy to follow, and signposts such as “Looking first” and “Turning to” help guide the reader. The organisation is effective, but cohesion is not always smooth. For example, “By comparison” introduces the breakfast and snack figures without clearly distinguishing the sodium tie from their different saturated-fat values, and “Moreover” does not add a particularly clear relationship in the final paragraph. Some links feel mechanical or are affected by missing spaces after full stops. Use more precise comparisons and connect each figure explicitly to its meal and nutrient.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “accounted for,” “stood at,” “proportion,” and “followed by,” so the chart is generally understandable. However, inaccurate spelling and word choice are noticeable and sometimes make the phrasing awkward: “demonstare,” “saturared,” “propostion,” and “sturated” appear, while “snack contribute” and “highest figure” are not natural choices for describing percentages. “The lowest of among” is also unclear. Aim for accurate, consistent terms such as “share,” “percentage,” and “proportion,” and check spelling carefully. More precise collocations would make the comparisons sound more fluent and help you express the data without relying on repeated “highest” and “lowest” formulations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more developed sentence forms, including the overview contrast beginning “while” and the comparison introduced by “By comparison.” The meaning is usually recoverable, but errors in agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries reduce accuracy. For instance, “snack contribute” needs a singular verb, and “dinner accounts for the the highest proportion” contains a duplicated article. In “The given pie chart demonstrate,” the subject and verb do not agree; the opening sentence also has an awkward structure around “information about the average percentage.” There are punctuation and spacing problems, including a missing space after the full stop in “added sugar. In contrast.” Review subject–verb agreement and article use, then proofread sentence boundaries while retaining your attempts at complex structures.
