Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify some relevant patterns, including dinner as the highest meal for sodium and saturated fat, and note that breakfast has similar figures for the three nutrients. However, the overview is incomplete and one key comparison is misreported: snack added sugar is 42%, not twice the saturated-fat figure of 21% (it is twice as high), while dinner added sugar is 23%, not “quite low” compared with saturated fat at 37%. The response also leaves the final lunch comparison unfinished and gives few accurate figures across the chart. To strengthen the report, summarise the main contrasts clearly and compare all three nutrients across meals using the correct values.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is an attempt to organise the response with an opening, an overview beginning “overall,” and further comparisons. However, the progression is difficult to follow because several ideas run together in long, poorly punctuated sentences, and the final sentence stops before completing its comparison. Linking words such as “whereas,” “although,” and “and finally” are used, but they do not consistently clarify the relationships between points; for example, “Although the saturated fat in dinner is 37%…” is not completed as a contrast. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and details, group comparisons by meal or nutrient, and make each sentence express one complete comparison.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is sufficient to identify the chart’s subject and basic comparisons, with terms such as “percentage,” “highest,” and “almost the same.” However, the range is limited and some word choices or collocations make the meaning unclear, including “the percentage of sodium uses in dinner meals” and “twice than.” There are also spelling errors in “belows” and “staurated,” and “very much” is not a natural way to describe excessive consumption. Aim for precise chart language such as “accounts for,” “is higher than,” and “consumed in excess.” Check spelling and use standard forms such as “saturated fat” consistently.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt some longer sentences and comparisons, but grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes make relationships between figures difficult to understand. For example, “The chart belows illustrates” has an incorrect verb form, while “it is unhealthy if its eaten very much” has problems with pronoun reference and sentence construction. Several sentences are joined without full stops, and the final clause, “which is almost the same its just differences by,” is incomplete. Subject–verb agreement and sentence boundaries also need attention. Practise writing short, complete comparison sentences first, then combine ideas with accurate clauses—for example, “Dinner accounts for 43% of sodium, compared with 29% at lunch.”
