Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the three nutrients and report several figures accurately, including dinner’s 43% sodium and 37% saturated fat, and snacks’ 42% added sugar. You also attempt an overview by noting dinner’s high values and breakfast’s low values. However, the overview is not fully accurate: dinner is not highest for every nutrient, since snacks have the highest added-sugar share. Breakfast is not the lowest for every nutrient either, as its sodium figure equals snacks’ 14%. The response also gives limited comparison and does not clearly summarise the main pattern across all meals. It is 119 words, below the required 150, which further limits the task coverage. Aim for a precise overview, then compare the key highs and lows.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic sequence: an introduction, an overall statement, and details about dinner, snacks, breakfast and lunch. This gives the reader some organisation, and words such as “Overall” and “Secondly” signal relationships between points. However, progression is not consistently clear. The overview’s claim that dinner is highest conflicts with the later statement that snacks have the highest added sugar, and the meal-by-meal listing does not group the data into clear comparisons. The opening also repeats “lunch” in its list of meals. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and supporting details, and organise the figures around meaningful contrasts—for example, dinner’s high sodium and fat versus snacks’ high sugar.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “sodium,” “saturated fat,” “added sugar,” “percentage” and “consumed,” so the subject is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several phrases are repeated or imprecise, such as “highest consumed nutrients” and “lowest consumed amount of nutrients.” These expressions do not clearly describe the proportions shown in the charts. There are also spelling errors, including “persentage,” and awkward wording such as “4 time meal.” Choose precise chart language such as “accounted for,” “proportion” and “share,” and use it consistently. This would make comparisons clearer and reduce repetition without requiring unnecessarily complex vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

Most of the response uses short, simple statements, and the reader can usually identify the intended meal and figure. However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and frequent errors affect clarity. For example, “The chart shows the average percentage … in 4 time meal” lacks a clear grammatical structure, while “Overall, dinner is the highest consumed nutrients” has faulty sentence construction and agreement. The sentence beginning “In dinner they consumed” also uses an unclear subject and an awkward clause pattern. Punctuation is inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and a full stop followed immediately by “it.” Practise accurate comparison structures, such as “Dinner accounts for the largest share of sodium,” and check sentence boundaries and articles.
