Average percentages of sodium, saturated fats and added sugars in typical meals consumed in the USA
Student answer (Band 5.0)
THIS PIE CHART ILLUSTRATE THE PROPOTION OF REGULAR MEALS CONSUMTION OF NUTRIENTS . THAT MIGHT NOT BENIFICIAL TO CONSUME.
THE PIE CHART SHOWS THAT THE SODIUM INTAKE IN THE DINNER IS COMPARETIVELY MUCH HIGHER THAN SATURATED FAT AND ADDED SUGAR .
SODIUM INTAKE IN BREAKFAST AND SNACKS IS LOWER AND HAVE PROPOTION OF 14 PERCENT IN THE SNACKS AND 14 IN THE BREAKFAST BUT THE SATURATED FATS IN SNACKS IS SLIGHTLY HIGHER THAN THE SODIUM CONTAINING 21 PERCENT SATURATED FATS BUT THE ADDED SUGARS ARE DOUBLE THE PERCENTAGE AS COMPARE TO SATURATED FAT AND SODIUM .
USA PEOPLE EAT SODIUM IN HIGHER AMOUNT ON AVERAGE OF 43 PERCENT AND 37 PERCENT OF SATURATED FATS IN THE DINNER . THESE AMOUNTS ARE SEEN LESSER IN ADDED SUGARS IN DINNER
WHICH IS 23 PERCENT .
COMSUPTIONS OF SODIUM IN LUNCH IS 29 PERCENT WHICH IS SLIGHTLY HIGHER THAN SATURATED FATS HAVING THE PROPOTION OF 26 PERCENT BUT IN LUNCH THE AVERAGE DROPS TO 19 PERCENT ARE CONSUMED IN UNITED STATES

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify relevant comparisons, including dinner as the highest meal for sodium and saturated fat, and correctly report the dinner figures of 43% and 37%. You also note the equal 14% shares for sodium at breakfast and snacks, and give several lunch figures. However, coverage is partial: the overview is not clearly separated from details, and the key contrast that added sugar peaks in snacks at 42% is described vaguely as “double” without identifying the meal or giving its value. Some comparisons are also unclear, such as saying sodium at dinner is higher than saturated fat and added sugar without specifying that these are meal-specific shares. Include a concise overview and report the main pattern for all three nutrients accurately and explicitly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response contains related information and moves broadly from general comments to breakfast/snacks, dinner and lunch. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the ideas are placed in one continuous block, with no clear paragraphing or distinct overview. Long strings of information, especially the sentence beginning “SODIUM INTAKE IN BREAKFAST AND SNACKS,” combine several comparisons without clear links. Connectors such as “but” and “which” do not always show precisely how the figures relate, and the final sentence ends without a clear concluding point. Organise the report into an introduction, an overview and two detail paragraphs, grouping comparisons by meal or nutrient, and use linking phrases only where their relationship is clear.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant terms, including “sodium intake,” “saturated fats,” “added sugars,” “proportion” and “average.” However, the range is limited and several inaccurate or misspelled forms make the report less clear, such as “propotion,” “consumtion,” “benificial” and “comsuptions.” Some expressions are also unnatural or imprecise: “the average drops to 19 percent are consumed” and “double the percentage as compare to” do not communicate the comparison smoothly. Aim for accurate chart-reporting collocations such as “accounted for,” “made up” and “the highest proportion,” and use “share” or “percentage” consistently. Careful proofreading of spelling and word forms would make your meaning easier to follow.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer comparisons, but the range of sentence structures is limited and complex sentences are often faulty. For example, “This pie chart illustrate” has subject–verb disagreement, while “the sodium intake … is comparatively much higher than saturated fat and added sugar” lacks a clear grammatical comparison between meal shares. The sentence ending “which is 23 percent” is attached awkwardly, and “the average drops to 19 percent are consumed” combines incompatible structures. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, with the response written almost entirely in capitals and several sentences lacking clear boundaries. Practise building shorter, complete sentences with accurate agreement and clear comparison patterns before combining ideas.
