Student answer (Band 6.0)

The given pie charts compares the consumption of three types of nutrients sodium, saturated fat and added sugar in typical meals in the USA, measured in percentage.

Overall, it is clear that sodium contributes the most in dinner and added sugar shows the highest consumption in snakcs. In breakfast, all of three types almost took equal part.

In dinner, Sodium stood at 43% of which is the most highest. While Saturated fat depicts 37% of dinner, added sugar recorded 23% of it. In snakcs, added sugar contributes the largest part which is 42%. However, sodium and saturated fat, contributes 14% and 21% respectively.

In breakfast, saturated fat and added sugar took equal part in meal which is 16%, although sodium contributes 14%. Furthermore, in Lunch, sodium makes the most part, 29%. Saturated fat shows the 26% of meal and added sugar recorded the 19% of meals consumed in USA.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You cover all three nutrients and all four meals, and the main contrasts are generally accurate: dinner has the highest sodium and saturated-fat shares, while snacks lead for added sugar. The overview also identifies these broad patterns, and the body includes relevant figures. However, the claim that all three nutrients “almost took equal part” at breakfast is not a particularly meaningful comparison, and the overview could more clearly summarise the contrasting meal patterns. The response is also two words below the required 150-word minimum. To strengthen the report, make the overview more precise and ensure the response meets the stated length requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs grouping dinner and snacks before breakfast and lunch. This makes the information easy to follow, and comparisons are placed together in useful ways. Some linking is less controlled, however. For example, “While Saturated fat depicts 37% of dinner, added sugar recorded 23% of it” is an awkwardly joined comparison, and “However” in the snacks paragraph does not express a strong contrast. The overview is also brief and does not fully guide the reader through the main patterns. Use simpler, more precise links and make the overview the organising summary for the details that follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “contributes,” “recorded,” and “respectively,” and the nutrient and meal labels are generally clear. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “consumption … measured in percentage,” “depicts 37% of dinner,” and “took equal part in meal.” The spelling “snakcs” is repeated, and “most highest” is an incorrect, redundant form. These slips make the report sound less precise, even though the intended comparisons remain understandable. Aim for standard data-reporting phrases such as “accounted for,” “the proportion of,” and “share of the meal,” and proofread spelling and comparative forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “although” and “which,” and most of the data remains understandable. Some grammatical errors persist, though. The opening says “The given pie charts compares,” where the plural subject requires “compare”; “all of three types” needs an article or a different construction; and “sodium and saturated fat, contributes” has incorrect subject–verb agreement and punctuation. The fragment-like opening “While Saturated fat depicts…” is also not well integrated with the preceding sentence. Work on agreement, articles, and complete sentence structure, while retaining the range of sentence forms you are attempting.
