Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the main pattern that dinner accounts for the largest shares of sodium and saturated fat, and that snacks contribute the most added sugar. These are relevant overview points. However, the report is incomplete: it gives only a few figures, ends abruptly after “37 and 26 percent in diner,” and does not clearly compare all three nutrients across the meals. The claim that dinner has the “smallest of sugar” is inaccurate: breakfast, at 16%, is the smallest, while dinner is 23%. The response also falls 42 words short of the required minimum, which contributes to the limited coverage. To improve, include a complete overview and select key figures for each chart, checking every comparison against the data.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an introduction is followed by an overview and then some detail. The overview also uses a contrast between dinner and snacks, which helps signal a comparison. However, progression is limited because the final paragraph combines several points without developing them, and it stops mid-comparison. Connectors such as “while” and “However” are used, but punctuation around them is often faulty, making relationships between ideas harder to follow. The repeated, unclear phrasing in “snack made up contiened” also disrupts flow. Use separate, purposeful paragraphs for the overview and supporting comparisons, and group details by nutrient or by meal so the reader can follow the data consistently.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some task-relevant vocabulary, including “proportion,” “rates,” and “share,” and attempts to describe comparisons rather than merely list labels. However, the range is limited and several word choices or spellings make the meaning difficult to interpret, such as “health systemes,” “gripped,” “contiend,” and “sanck.” “Rates” is also less precise than “percentages” or “proportions” for these chart values. Repetition of “same” and “biggest” limits precision. Build a small set of accurate chart-description expressions, such as “accounted for,” “represented,” and “the largest proportion,” and check spelling and collocations before submitting. This would make the report clearer without requiring unusually advanced vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, including a contrast introduced by “while,” but the range is limited and complex constructions are often faulty. For example, “Overall, dinner had the biggest share of sodium while,it contiend the smallest of sugar” has unclear clause structure and incorrect punctuation; “Sodium contient same proportion around 14 percent in snack and breakfast” is missing an article and a clear verb form. The final sentence, “Saturated fat consumed 37 and 26 percent in diner,” lacks a grammatical subject construction and does not clearly express the comparison. Focus first on complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, accurate articles, and correctly punctuated linking words. Then practise combining two accurate clauses with “while” or “whereas.”
