Student answer (Band 6.0)

An increasing number of people have made a decision to reduce the amount of flying they usually do each year, even some have decided to stop flying altogether. Although, this bring the benefits to the enviornment but I believe its disadvantages outweighs the advantages mainly because of globalisation will be reduced and tourism will not be promote.

One significant advantage of reducing the amount of travelling is that it will benefit the enviornment and its surrounding as it will reduce the air pollution, the carbon emissions and inhabitants of wild life will be protected. However, these measurements still can be taken by reducing the private cars, by planting more trees and by promoting the public transports.

On the other hand, businesses will suffer alot if they stopped travelling as globalisation will not be promoted which lead to the loss of expanding their work in other parts of the countries. This can result in few employment opportunities as conferences are being held very frequently each year which leads to people getting job opportunities. Also, tourism will be impacted as a large amount of people are travelling each year to other part of countries to promote the culture and spend quality time with their good ones which results in revenue of taxes as the bookings and the hotels get booked.

In conclusion, although reducing the amount of flying each year or even stopped flying anymore brings the enviornmental benefits but I believe the consequences of it are greater as it stop the promotion of the business as well as reduced the tourism and affect the country's economy. However, measurements can be taken by promoting public transport and reducing the private cars to keep the environment positive and cleaner.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you believe the disadvantages outweigh the environmental benefits, and you address effects on both businesses and individuals through discussion of globalisation, employment and tourism. The environmental benefit of lower emissions is also relevant. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For example, the claim that fewer flights will reduce globalisation needs a clearer link to how businesses would lose opportunities, and the tourism paragraph would benefit from a specific example or fuller explanation of the effects on individuals and local economies. The suggestion that other measures could protect the environment is relevant, but it does not fully compare their effectiveness with reducing flights. Develop these comparisons to make the argument more convincing and balanced.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on environmental benefits, a paragraph on disadvantages, and a conclusion. Linking expressions such as “On the other hand” and “In conclusion” help signal the direction of the argument. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. The opening “Although … but” combines two contrasting structures, while “However, these measurements still can be taken” does not clearly explain how the alternative measures relate to the environmental benefit. Several ideas are also crowded into long sentences, particularly in the tourism discussion. Use clearer sentence boundaries and make each paragraph’s central point explicit, then connect supporting explanations directly to it.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “carbon emissions,” “globalisation,” “employment opportunities,” “tourism” and “revenue,” which allows you to discuss the issue. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “a significant advantage.” However, word choice and collocation are sometimes inaccurate or repetitive: “inhabitants of wild life” is unclear, “promote the culture” is not the most natural expression here, and “good ones” is too informal for an academic essay. Spelling errors such as “enviornment” and “alot” also reduce accuracy. Build a more precise range of topic-specific expressions and check spelling and collocations so that your meaning is consistently natural and clear.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a concession in the introduction and clauses explaining consequences. The main argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur across the response. For example, “this bring the benefits” has a subject–verb agreement error, and “its disadvantages outweighs” has incorrect agreement. The opening “Although … but” uses two contrasting markers together, while “which lead to the loss” does not agree with its antecedent. Verb forms are also inconsistent in “or even stopped flying” and “as it stop the promotion.” Aim to control agreement and verb forms, and revise complex sentences so each clause has a clear subject and a correctly formed verb.
