Student answer (Band 7.5)
No, I don't believe that the environmental prospects of limiting or eliminating aviation can overcome the immense benefits that come along with aviation for people and economic purposes alike.
Air travel has become a fundamental part of human society, having deeply engrained itself into human culture. This is mainly because of the efficiency, speed and easiness of travel that airlines provide to people. For many people it used to be extremely difficult to witness and exhibit the rest of the earth. This was heavily due to geographical location and issues with time spent travelling. However, airplanes revolutionized this by providing people for a way to travel to other continents in mere hours. This allowed people to go on wonderful vacations, immigrate to find better job prospects, build families in more prosperous areas, and much more with ease that was previously unimaginable.
Another reason why aviation is so important is because of how heavily the business sector relies on it. It has allowed for goods to be transported internationally, to all parts of the world. This has not only led to immense increase in profit for the exporters, the imported items provide much benefit to the respective location as well. For example, fruits and vegetables that are not suitable to grow in a native area, or are out-of-season, can be imported from other nations, allowing for year-round versatility for citizens, and providing new food choices for them. This is applicable to many other sectors, such as textiles, machinery, medication, plants, and much more.
Overall, while there maybe disadvantages to air travel that threaten the environment, such as the use of non-renewable fossil fuels, and release of toxic gases. It is much more important to find alternate solutions for these problems, as the benefits provided by aviation are far too immense and irreplaceble.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response clearly addresses the prompt by taking a firm position against reducing air travel. You have identified two main areas—personal benefits and economic/business advantages—and provided relevant examples for each. The position is consistent throughout the essay. To reach a higher band, you could further develop the 'environmental benefits' side of the argument before refuting it, as the prompt asks you to weigh the benefits against the disadvantages. Currently, the environmental impact is mentioned only briefly in the introduction and conclusion. Expanding on the specific environmental trade-offs would demonstrate a more balanced and nuanced exploration of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use some cohesive devices such as 'However,' 'Another reason,' and 'Overall,' which help guide the reader. To improve, try to incorporate a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the transition between the environmental concerns and the economic benefits is smoother. Some sentences, such as the final one in the second paragraph, could be better connected to the main topic sentence to improve the flow of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with some precision. Phrases like 'fundamental part of human society,' 'geographical location,' and 'year-round versatility' are used effectively. There are some minor issues with word choice, such as 'easiness of travel' (which is better expressed as 'ease of travel') and 'irreplaceble' (spelling error). While the vocabulary is adequate for the task, incorporating more sophisticated collocations or less common academic terms would help elevate the response to a higher band. Overall, the language is clear and conveys your meaning well.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The essay shows a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. You demonstrate control over punctuation and sentence construction, though there are occasional errors. For example, the sentence 'Overall, while there maybe disadvantages...' is a sentence fragment because it lacks a main clause following the 'while' clause. Additionally, 'maybe' should be written as two words ('may be') in this context. Despite these minor slips, the grammar does not impede communication, and the majority of your sentences are clear and accurate. Increasing the use of more complex grammatical structures, such as conditional sentences or passive voice, would further improve your score.
