Student answer (Band 7.0)

Climate change has become one of the biggest environmental challenges that the world is facing today. As result, some people believed that reducing or eliminating air travel would bring greater benefits to the environment despite the disadvantages for other individuals and businesses. In my opinion, I strongly agree, although there are some incovenience, the long-term benefits to our planet are far more significant.

One of the main advantages of reducing air travel is its positive impact to the environment. Airplanes produce significant amount of carbon emissions that causes global warming and air pollution. By reducing the number of flights, countries can lower greenhouse gas emissions and can help slow down climate change. This will also improve air quality and will create a healthier planet for the next generation. For example, people can utilized different modes of transportation such as trains and busses whenever they travel. Business owners can migrate to online meetings and digitalized transactions. Both can still create meaningful relationships and interconnectedness without the unnecessary flights. Therefore, limiting air travel is an effective way to help our planet recover without creating complete interference in people's lives.

However, reducing air travel also have its drawbacks especially to some travellers and businesses. Business owners may need to meet their partners and clients. Individuals may prefer seeing their friends and loved ones in-person. However, these disadvantages are manageable. Today, businesses can meet through video conferencing. where they can still communciate effectively and efficiently. Meanwhile, people who want to visit other places can try other forms of transport. It offers a new experience and most of the time, it can be much cheaper. Although, these alternatives may not completely replace air travel, these initiatives can definitely create a positive impact to the environment.

In conclusion, reducing air travel may cause cartain challenges for businesses and some individuals. However. I beleive that these drawbacks certainly outweigh the environmental benefits, such as lower carbon emissions, clear air, and a healthier planet for future generations.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The response addresses all parts of the task and maintains a clear position throughout. You have identified both the environmental benefits and the disadvantages for individuals and businesses, providing a balanced view. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed, such as the suggestion of video conferencing as a substitute for business travel. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are slightly more nuanced; for instance, you could briefly acknowledge that some industries, like tourism, suffer more significantly than others from reduced air travel. Overall, the response is well-focused and directly answers the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, and you use cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Therefore', and 'Meanwhile' to link ideas. While the progression is clear, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Additionally, there are minor issues with punctuation, such as the sentence fragment 'where they can still communciate effectively and efficiently' in the third paragraph, which disrupts the flow. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring sentence boundaries are correctly punctuated would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'interconnectedness', 'greenhouse gas emissions', and 'digitalized transactions'. There are some spelling errors, such as 'incovenience', 'utilised', 'communciate', 'cartain', and 'beleive'. While these do not impede communication, they are noticeable. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and ensure accuracy in spelling. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey your arguments clearly, but moving toward more sophisticated or academic phrasing would help elevate your score in this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this level. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'As result' (missing article), 'some people believed' (tense inconsistency), and 'reducing air travel also have' (subject-verb agreement). Additionally, there are some punctuation errors, such as the unnecessary period in the final paragraph: 'However. I beleive'. While these errors are frequent, they rarely impede the reader's understanding of your main points. To improve, focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and article usage, and work on integrating complex sentences more accurately.
