Student answer (Band 5.0)

In recent years, many people have decided to reduce the number of times they fly every year. Because of climate change and the greenhouse effect.

The advantage of less travelling is low gases in air, the climate doesn't change day by day, and the air is clean. Also the less consumption of the fuel and maintenance. There are different types of gases that are released in the air due to combustion of fuel in aircraft, like carbon monoxide and other harmful gases, which are harmful for humans and animals. These gases alter the climate, which cause low food productivity and low rains in the season.

On the other hand, there are some disadvantages of the less travelling; some people don't visit their families, and many of the businesses have their international meetings. Also, some students want to move abroad for their master's and PhD.. Many people work in other countries, and their family lives in other countries they want to visit; that's why they travel. A lot of people can earn from travelling like airline and their staff and pilots, and many other countries' economies depend on tourism; they can earn from tourism only .

In my point of view only the fly is not a reason of enviroment dirty or climate change many other things also effect its so if we fly less they don;t change the envirment we can balance all the activities then over environment is clean . So in my opinion reduce the number of fly has disadvantages like international meetings and other businesses

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both environmental benefits and the disadvantages for individuals and businesses. However, the development of ideas is limited. The arguments regarding environmental impact are somewhat repetitive, and the discussion on economic consequences lacks specific examples or depth. The position is stated in the conclusion but is not consistently maintained or clearly articulated throughout the essay. To improve, you should provide more detailed explanations for each point and ensure that the link between the environmental benefits and the disadvantages is more clearly weighed to answer the 'do you think' aspect of the prompt more effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is often disjointed. While some cohesive devices are used (e.g., 'On the other hand', 'Also'), they are sometimes used mechanically or incorrectly. The transition between the environmental arguments and the economic disadvantages is abrupt. Furthermore, the final paragraph is confusing and lacks a clear logical flow, making it difficult for the reader to follow your line of reasoning. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally basic and repetitive. You rely on simple terms like 'harmful gases', 'less travelling', and 'earn from'. There are instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'low gases in air' and 'envirment dirty', which indicate a limited range of vocabulary for discussing complex environmental or economic topics. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise terminology, such as 'carbon emissions', 'economic repercussions', or 'mitigate climate change', and work on collocations to ensure your word choices sound more natural and academic.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with sentence structure, such as fragments ('Because of climate change and the greenhouse effect.') and run-on sentences. Subject-verb agreement and article usage are inconsistent (e.g., 'the fly is not a reason', 'over environment is clean'). While you attempt some complex structures, they are often inaccurate. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and proofreading for common errors like missing articles and incorrect verb forms.
