Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. The essay is incomplete, ending abruptly in the second body paragraph. While the prompt asks for a discussion on environmental benefits versus disadvantages for individuals and businesses, the arguments provided are underdeveloped and often unclear. For instance, the claim that flying causes health risks like 'plane crashes' is not a logical environmental argument, and the point about business is vague. The position is not clearly maintained throughout due to the lack of a conclusion and the fragmented nature of the content.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The essay lacks a logical structure. While there is an attempt at an introduction, the body paragraphs are disjointed and fail to develop a coherent argument. Cohesive devices such as 'In addition' and 'However' are used, but they do not effectively link ideas because the underlying logic is flawed. The paragraphing is insufficient, and the abrupt ending prevents any sense of progression or conclusion. The referencing is often unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the writer's train of thought.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. The student relies on basic words and phrases, such as 'many benefits', 'good', and 'bad', which are insufficient for an academic task. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'carriers' instead of 'carries' and 'shortcoming' used incorrectly. The lack of variety and the misuse of terms hinder the expression of complex ideas, keeping the lexical range at a very basic level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The grammar is characterized by frequent errors that often impede communication. There are significant issues with sentence construction, such as the opening sentence which is grammatically incoherent. Subject-verb agreement errors (e.g., 'every humans should'), incorrect word forms (e.g., 'fly' used as a noun instead of 'flying'), and missing articles are pervasive. The range of structures is extremely limited, consisting mostly of simple, error-prone sentences. Punctuation is also inconsistent, further detracting from the clarity of the writing.
