Some people have decided to reduce the number of times they fly every year or to stop flying altogether.
Do you think the environmental benefits of this development outweigh the disadvantages for individuals and businesses?

Student answer (Band 6.0)
These days due to more pollution, many people have decided to reduce the travel by airplane or many have stopped flying. I think it is beneficial for environment as it does not produce air pollution. I believe that the disadvantages for individuals and businesses outweigh the advantages of environment. Both the prespective is discussed further.
Firstly, one major reason for environment benefit will be, if citizens reduce the travel by air or stop flying they will save a lot of fuel as airplanes needs a lot of fuel to travel. As a result, if airplanes will not fly more eventually it will not emit more carbon emission in air which will not cause more air pollution. Secondly, by not flying by air to nearby cities, it will also save little money as airplane tickets are much costly than train or buses.
However, it is disadvantage for individuals and business man as there are many people who need to travel to another countries for business purposes. As a result, they need to travel by air. If they reduce travelling to another countries there than there will be loss in the business which affect the person and also to country economy.
In addition, it is also necessary for an individuals who live far away from their family, in case of emergency flight is much easier option as it saves time and reach on time. For example, a person has a job in Bangalore and his parents live in Himachal Pradesh, so in case of some emergency travelling by train will take a lot of time to reach.
In conclusion, although travelling by air planes cause environmental damage but it is necessary for businesses and individual to travel as it saves time. I believe that disadvantages outweigh the advantages.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing a clear position that the disadvantages outweigh the advantages. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention environmental benefits and business/individual drawbacks, the arguments lack depth and specific evidence. For instance, the point about business travel is valid but could be expanded with more sophisticated reasoning regarding global trade or economic interconnectedness. The conclusion restates your position, but the overall development remains at a basic level, which prevents a higher score. To improve, ensure each body paragraph explores the 'why' and 'how' of your arguments more thoroughly.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'However', and 'In addition' to link your points. However, the use of these devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. Furthermore, there are instances where the flow between sentences is slightly disjointed, such as in the second paragraph where the transition between fuel consumption and ticket costs feels abrupt. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the relationship between sentences is more fluid and less reliant on simple enumerators.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'pollution', 'travel', and 'money'. There are also some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'business man' (should be 'business people' or 'professionals') and 'prespective' (spelling error). While the meaning is clear throughout, there is little evidence of less common lexical items or idiomatic language. To reach a higher band, focus on incorporating more precise academic vocabulary related to the environment and economics, such as 'carbon footprint', 'economic repercussions', or 'logistical necessity'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, they often contain grammatical errors, such as 'if airplanes will not fly more eventually it will not emit' (incorrect conditional structure) and 'it is disadvantage for individuals' (missing article 'a'). There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and pluralization, such as 'airplane tickets are much costly' (should be 'more costly'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency and accuracy of the writing.
