Student answer (Band 6.0)

Flights play an essential role in people's lives because it saves commuting, while several people have decided to reduce the number of times they fly every year and to stop flying altogether. I believe the advantages of this development outweigh its disadvantages.

One major advantages of this development is that it reduces the noise pollution and carbon emissions which cause by flights. This is because whenever flight takes off and in lending it produces the large amount of air pollution as well as generate excessive noise which harm the environment and other lives. In addition, flights damage the upper atmosphere by releasing nitrogen gases. As a result, people often experience climate change and unwanted rain without monsoon season. For instance, in many part of the world, weather condition changes suddenly because of higher rate of carbon emission. Therefore, this development reduces the amount of damage cause by flights by reducing the number of passenger.

However, flights have become an increasingly essential for businesses and in order to migrate and flights are the fastest form which save a large amount of commuting time, particularly in traveling out side the country. To exemplify, a businessman whose business rely heavily on treads and meeting out side the country, flights are the only way to handle all this rapidly and smoothly. Consequently, people saves a commuting time and money.

In conclusion, although flights save commuting time, I believe the benefits of this development outweigh its drawbacks because it reduces the amount of carbon emission and also noise pollution.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing a clear position that the environmental benefits outweigh the disadvantages. The ideas are relevant, such as discussing carbon emissions and noise pollution versus business efficiency. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the explanation of how flights affect the atmosphere is a bit simplistic, and the business argument could be more nuanced by discussing alternatives like video conferencing. While the position is consistent, the supporting arguments would benefit from more depth and specific examples to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In addition,' 'For instance,' and 'Consequently,' which help the flow of ideas. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and there are occasional issues with referencing and sentence-level cohesion. For instance, the phrase 'whenever flight takes off and in lending' is awkward and disrupts the logical flow. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, but the use of cohesive devices could be more sophisticated and natural to improve the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. There are several instances of awkward word choices or incorrect collocations, such as 'in lending' (instead of 'landing'), 'treads' (likely meaning 'trade'), and 'migrate' used in a business context. While the meaning is generally clear, these errors indicate a limited control over less common lexical items. To improve, focus on learning topic-specific collocations related to the environment and business travel to express ideas with greater accuracy and sophistication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader's understanding. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('flights... saves', 'business rely'), incorrect verb forms ('cause by flights'), and article usage errors ('in many part of the world'). While the meaning is usually discernible, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tense usage would significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
