Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the environmental benefits and the disadvantages of reducing air travel. However, the development of ideas is limited and somewhat repetitive. The position is stated in the introduction but remains inconsistent, as the conclusion contradicts the earlier analysis by stating there are more disadvantages than advantages without sufficient justification. The arguments regarding economic impact and climate change are present but lack depth and specific examples, which prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. To improve, ensure that each body paragraph provides a clear, well-supported argument that directly contributes to a consistent overall position.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the flow between and within them is often mechanical and sometimes confusing. While cohesive devices like 'To begin with', 'In contrast', and 'In conclusion' are used, they are often placed awkwardly or used incorrectly (e.g., 'subsequently' and 'afterwards' are used in contexts where they do not logically link the ideas). The referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of the argument. Improving the logical connection between sentences and using a wider variety of linking words more naturally would significantly enhance the coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and contains several spelling errors, such as 'popullation', 'flyties', 'airoplane', and 'cilimate'. The range of vocabulary is basic, and there are instances of incorrect word choice, such as 'personal stuff' and 'my goods are export though air'. While the meaning is generally understandable, the lack of precision and the frequent errors in spelling and collocation restrict the score. To improve, focus on learning the correct spelling of common academic terms and expanding your vocabulary to include more precise, topic-specific collocations related to environmental and economic issues.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay displays a limited range of grammatical structures, with frequent errors in sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and punctuation. Examples include 'significant proportion of popullation concern to whether', 'it have both pors and cons', and 'if would we start working'. These errors are frequent and sometimes impede the clarity of the message. While there is an attempt to use complex sentences, they are often faulty. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structures, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and practicing the correct use of conditional sentences and relative clauses.
