Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 3.0
The response is completely off-topic. The prompt asks for a discussion on the environmental impact of reducing air travel, whereas the essay discusses the global transportation of food. Because the student failed to address the specific task requirements, the response cannot be assessed as a successful attempt at the prompt. While the essay follows a structure that attempts to argue a position, the content is entirely irrelevant to the question provided. Consequently, the task achievement is severely limited as the main topic was ignored.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which provides a basic structure. However, the logical progression is hindered by the lack of relevance to the prompt. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand' and 'In conclusion', but they are often used mechanically or incorrectly, such as starting sentences with 'But' or 'Although' in a way that does not link ideas effectively. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making the flow of the argument difficult to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. The student relies on basic terms like 'food', 'transportation', and 'people'. There are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'transportation of food is widely extend' and 'shortage of time to more different nations'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas, and the misuse of terms occasionally makes the intended meaning unclear.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that affect the clarity of the writing. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'it have a major impact' and 'it provide accessibility'. Sentence structures are generally simple, and attempts at complex sentences often result in errors, such as 'Although, there are various type of items which are available in their own countries. But, some people find...'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the misuse of commas and sentence fragments.
