Student answer (Band 6.0)

Few people have decided to reduce the number of fights they take every year or completely stop flying. Due to this the green-house gases emission is significantly reduced. Although there are certain difficulties faced by certain individuals and businesses.

On the one hand, decreasing the number of flights significantly help the environment by dropping green-house gasses, climate changes and saves fuel. When the air transportation is decreased in number the emission of harmful gasses such as carbon-dioxide and nitrogen is minimized. This significantly increases the quality of life on Earth by providing fresh air to the individuals and decreases global warming. For instance, in most of the countries the air mode of transportation in gradually decreased by motivating people to use railways as they are significantly inexpensive compared to fights.

On the other hand, by decreasing flying certain businesses have to face trouble. Most of the businesses are required to attend meetings and conferences in person to finalize their project or deal by reducing the number of times they fly it may significantly experience a drawback in their business. For example, a CEO of a company has to attend meeting in an other country on an account of an emergency will use the fastest mode of transportation via aeroplane. Without this the meetings stop and they might face several issues such as loss in business and unsatisfied clients.

In conclusion, there are few drawbacks in reducing the number of times an individual fly every year where the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the environmental benefits and the disadvantages for businesses. However, the development is somewhat limited. While you state that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages, the conclusion is very brief and does not effectively summarize the main points or reinforce your position with depth. The introduction is also slightly weak, as it starts with 'Few people have decided,' which misinterprets the premise of the prompt. To improve, ensure you fully explore the implications of your arguments rather than just listing them, and provide a more comprehensive conclusion that synthesizes your main points.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the argument. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand' to signal shifts in perspective. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing could be more sophisticated. For example, the transition between the environmental benefits and the business drawbacks is abrupt. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the logical progression within paragraphs is smoother by connecting ideas more fluidly.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'green-house gases,' 'carbon-dioxide,' and 'transportation.' However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and minor errors, such as 'fights' instead of 'flights' and 'air mode of transportation' instead of 'air travel.' These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To improve, focus on learning collocations—words that naturally go together—and proofread carefully to avoid simple spelling or word-choice slips that detract from the professional tone of your essay.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'decreasing the number of flights significantly help' (subject-verb agreement) and 'an individual fly' (should be 'flies'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some issues with sentence boundaries and clarity. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Increasing the frequency of error-free sentences by simplifying complex structures until you are more confident with them will help improve your score.
