IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some people have decided to reduce the number of times they fly every year or to stop flying altogether.

Do you think the environmental benefits of this development outweigh the disadvantages for individuals and businesses?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the recent year, the people have decided to reduce their number of times flying every year or stopped flying at all because of the environmental issues that has been going on.

I believe the environmental benefits of it doesn't outweigh the disadvantages for individuals and businesses.

The reason being, a considerable number of people fly every minute. Some for their work, some to visit their hometowns and some to enjoy their vacation. The stoppage of flight can have an significant impact on airlines as they can go bankrupt if there business are not in bloom. Even if flights have certain affect on the environment, however totally halting the travel can only hamper with the economic growth of the country. People can easily be convinced to use other transport but not every transport can reach your desired destination. Many transport such as bus and ferries take days in completing one journey as compared to airborne transport.

The pros of the airships are that they are much faster and convenient as compared to others as many transportation takes day to travel. They have also played a major role in increasing tourism for the countries. If the

people reduce their air journey then the huge amount spent on the airports for their welfare goes to complete waste and the space bought by the government for the development will be be just a barren land. For instance, the Srinagar Airport in India has been shut down for years due to lack of passengers.

To conclude, though there's many environment disadvantages, the flying cannot be stopped for the benefit of the nation and the people and that the government should find a solution to balance both the aspects.
