Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The student presents a basic position regarding the disadvantages of reducing flights for individuals and businesses, attempting to address the prompt. However, the response is severely underdeveloped and abruptly cut off. Crucially, the length requirement of 250 words is not met, as the response contains only 133 words. This lack of development severely impacts Task Achievement. While the writer touches on tourism economies and corporate travel, the ideas are presented in brief, isolated sentences without sufficient extension, support, or a fully rounded comparative conclusion regarding whether the environmental benefits outweigh the disadvantages. Based on the sparse development and under-length status, this response aligns with a Band 4.5 descriptor profile, rounded to 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The text is divided into three short paragraphs, showing a basic attempt at organising ideas into an introduction, body, and partial conclusion. However, overall progression is limited by the sheer brevity of the writing. Cohesive devices are minimal, with simple transitions such as 'There are many countries' and 'Though such activities'. Referencing is occasionally loose, such as 'such travel' referring back to training purposes. Paragraphing is present, but the final paragraph begins with 'Though' and reads more like an incomplete sentence fragment or a stray thought rather than a cohesive concluding argument. Due to the rudimentary and occasionally faulty organization, this warrants a Band 5.5.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student uses a limited, minimally adequate vocabulary to discuss tourism and the economy, employing terms like 'infrastructure', 'economy', and 'adversely'. There are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, such as 'indivuduals' instead of individuals, 'dumpping waster' instead of dumping waste, and grammatical collocation errors like 'depend on tourism' (depending on) and 'training purpose' (purposes). The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, but repetition and inaccuracies ('certain group of people') restrict the range. Because the errors do not severely impede basic communication, but the resource remains quite limited, this earns a Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control is inconsistent. There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('There are certain group of people', 'economy depend'), spelling errors ('indivuduals'), and awkward phrasing ('travel for the their work'). The final sentence is incomplete grammatically, trailing off with a dependent clause ('though dumping waster'). While some simple sentences are accurate, the frequency of errors in basic structures pulls the score down. This performance fits comfortably within the Band 5.0 descriptors for grammatical range and accuracy.
