Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The student attempts to address the prompt regarding whether the environmental benefits of reducing air travel outweigh the disadvantages. However, the response falls significantly short of the 250-word minimum, containing only 213 words. This under-length issue directly impacts the level of development and places a strict ceiling on Task Achievement. While the writer states a clear position that environmental benefits and employment gains outweigh disadvantages, the ideas are underdeveloped and lack sufficient supporting evidence. The arguments regarding GDP and business are confusingly articulated, referencing specific businessmen like Ambani and Adani without adequately linking them to the core question. Due to the limited word count and insufficient development of ideas, this response satisfies the criteria for Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, including an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, which provides a basic structural framework. However, the overall progression of ideas lacks clarity and logical flow. While cohesive devices such as 'To begin with,' 'Moreover,' and 'Additionally' are used, they are often applied mechanically or inappropriately given the context of the arguments. For instance, the transition into economic benefits feels abrupt and disjointed from the environmental point. Referencing and pronoun use are sometimes unclear, making it occasionally difficult to follow the writer's train of thought. Paragraphing is attempted but lacks the internal cohesion required for higher bands. These organizational and cohesive shortcomings align well with a Band 5.0 score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used throughout the essay is basic and repetitive, struggling to convey precise meaning. The writer relies heavily on simple terms and makes frequent word-choice and spelling errors, such as 'benefecial' instead of beneficial, 'beieng' instead of being, 'stablished' instead of established, and 'ares' instead of areas. There are also inappropriate collocations, such as 'products will prepare on high level.' While the student attempts some less common vocabulary like 'environment' and 'employment,' the control over these items is weak. The lexical range is minimally adequate for basic communication, but errors are noticeable and occasionally impede understanding, which clearly reflects a Band 5.0 performance.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The essay displays a very limited range of grammatical structures. Simple sentences dominate, and attempts at more complex structures are frequently faulty, leading to ungrammatical phrasing such as 'In many countries, individual taking flights every year for their own purposes' and 'Employment is also will increase.' There are pervasive errors in verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and punctuation throughout the text. These frequent errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader and obscure the intended meaning in several places. Because the control of grammar is weak and error-free sentences are scarce, this performance corresponds to a Band 4.5.
