Student answer (Band 6.0)
The carbon emissions caused by means of transport especially through airplanes are increasing each year. Some people think that they should reduce their travel by air or they should not fly at all to solve this ongoing issue. I believe that people should switch to more cleaner options where required. The environmental benefits surely does outweighs the disadvantages for one's businesses.
Firstly, if the environment is destroyed there will be no business or individual, so saving planet is our first priority. With technological advancements, now you have access to everything online. So business meetings could potentially be held online. Also, people needs to switch to more climate friendly options like green buses or trains where possible.
Secondly, by flying less there will be less emissions which would lead to restore our nature. Global warming would also be subsequently reduced leading to more cleaner future. There are many other environmental advantages including less disease outbreak. For instance; studies shows that mostly diseases are transfered through airplanes from one country to another. So, by flying less you are also saving the chances of catching diseases.
In contrast with, many people believe that flying more would help you find more global opportunitues. In business deals, meeting in person will help you achieve better results. By using airplanes you can save a-lot of time too which is crucial for people with busy routines and schdules like business-man.
In conclusion, flying should be reduced overall. If necessary switch to cleaner options. Transportation through airplanes, helicopter or private jets cause emissions. And reducing that is crucial for human's survival on this planet.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both the environmental benefits and the disadvantages for individuals and businesses. The candidate takes a clear position that the environmental benefits outweigh the disadvantages, and extends this with relevant arguments regarding online meetings, green transport, and disease transmission. However, some arguments lack full development or rely on unsupported assertions, such as the claim that most diseases are transferred through airplanes. The overall treatment is generally relevant and addresses the core issues, aligning best with a Band 6 score where ideas are present and the task is addressed, though some aspects lack deep elaboration.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph structure, using sequential markers like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In contrast with'. However, cohesion is at times faulty or mechanical. For instance, the phrase 'In contrast with' is grammatically incomplete and awkward. Referencing and logical progression are occasionally disjointed, such as the abrupt transition between environmental arguments and business considerations. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points, but the transitional devices lack natural flexibility. This performance corresponds well to the Band 6 descriptors.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The candidate demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'technological advancements', 'global warming', and 'subsequently reduced'. However, there are noticeable lexical inaccuracies and awkward word choices, including 'more cleaner options', 'saving planet', 'climate friendly', and 'global opportunitues'. Spelling errors like 'schdules' also occur. While communication is not impeded and the range is minimally sufficient to convey the argument, the persistent errors in collocation and word form prevent the writing from achieving a higher band, placing it firmly at Band 6.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilising conditionals ('if the environment is destroyed...') and relative clauses. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement errors like 'people needs' and 'the environmental benefits surely does outweighs', missing articles ('saving planet'), and punctuation or prepositional slips ('In contrast with'). While these errors do not severely impede overall comprehension, they occur with enough frequency to restrict the score to Band 5, as the control over complex structures is inconsistent and error-laden.
