Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the prompt regarding the environmental benefits of reducing air travel compared to disadvantages for individuals and businesses, but it struggles significantly with focus and task interpretation. The writer frequently conflates 'flying' with 'environment' and wanders off into general statements about nature and health. For instance, the discussion on construction work and sunlight is only tangentially related to the prompt. While a position is stated, the ideas are often under-developed, repetitive, and lack clear support tailored to the specific question of whether environmental benefits outweigh disadvantages. These limitations align closely with the Band 5 descriptor, where the task is addressed only partially and ideas remain limited.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, and the writer attempts to use transition markers such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion'. However, the overall organization lacks a clear logical progression. Ideas jump abruptly between flying, personal confidence, nature views, business construction, and worker salaries without a smooth conceptual bridge. Referencing is frequently unclear, and cohesive devices are used mechanically or repetitively. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal paragraph coherence is disrupted by fragmented sentences and shifting topics. This reflects the characteristics of Band 5, where there is some organization but no clear overall progression and cohesive devices are inadequate or faulty.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with frequent spelling and word-choice errors that occasionally impede understanding. Examples include 'freshment' instead of refreshment, 'facinating' instead of fascinating, 'bacuse' instead of because, and 'sellery' instead of salary. The student attempts some less common items such as 'benefical', 'ambitious', and 'peacefull', but these are often used with incorrect collocation or grammatical forms. The range is limited and minimally adequate for the task, meaning it falls into Band 5, where noticeable errors in word choice and spelling cause some difficulty for the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

Grammatical control is weak throughout the response, featuring a very limited range of structures. Simple sentences dominate, and attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty or incomplete, such as in 'If a person eat healthy he she maily focus on work'. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement, tense consistency, prepositions, and punctuation. For example, 'mostly people try fly' and 'employes did not create good relation'. These errors occur with high frequency and often cause difficulty for the reader, placing the response firmly at Band 5 due to frequent errors and a lack of control over complex sentence forms.
