Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing the pros and cons of air travel and touching upon the idea of reducing flights for environmental reasons. However, the student's position is somewhat unclear and oscillates between acknowledging historical travel challenges and describing environmental degradation. Ideas are introduced, such as the impact on biodiversity and carbon emissions, but they remain under-developed and lack extension or concrete real-world examples beyond vague generalities. Furthermore, the response trails off incompletely at the end ('They believe, it may reduces the nu...'). This partial development and lack of a fully articulated stance place the response firmly in the Band 5 category.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The text is divided into paragraphs, though the logical progression is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions and abrupt shifts in focus. While cohesive devices like 'Therefore', 'While', and 'Moreover' are attempted, their usage is often mechanical, inaccurate, or grammatically intrusive, such as starting sentences with conjunctions inappropriately. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion is weak due to fragmented sentence structures and unclear referencing (e.g., 'That development cause...'). There is no clear overall progression of ideas, and the abrupt ending further weakens the structural integrity of the essay, aligning with Band 5 descriptors.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The lexical range is limited and repetitive, with frequent word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'large number of public travel', 'drastical problems', 'habibtants', and 'huge amount of fuel consumption also significantly raises'. There are noticeable spelling errors ('biodversity', 'habibtants', 'dramtically') and morphological errors ('businessmans', 'lessen problems', 'reduces the nu'). Although the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey a basic meaning, the persistent errors and lack of precision in conveying complex ideas restrict the score to Band 5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The grammatical range is quite limited, consisting primarily of simple sentences and flawed attempts at complex structures. There are frequent and systematic errors in tense, subject-verb agreement, and clause structure throughout the essay, such as 'Today, large number of public travel', 'aeroplane development is one of them', and 'emission of CO2 raises, that is affecting ecosystem'. Punctuation is also problematic, with run-on sentences and sentence fragments. These frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader and prevent the text from achieving a Band 6.
