Student answer (Band 5.0)

A growing number of people have made a plan to avoid to travel by aeroplanes or to stop flyng with one another. I would argue that, this development will have more benefits and it will outweigh the drawbacks for betterment in environment.

First and foremost, if more number of people have decided to quit to fly very year, in resulting it will redue number of planes. Consequently, less amount of

severe gases like carbon dioxide will be emitted. It contributes in strengthening the environment. Sky will also be clean and we can breathe in a clean and fresh air. For instance, a country like Bhutan does not have many flying operations, therefore their environment is healthy.

Moreover, it helps to reduce the expenses of people. Unnecessary traveling to aborad requires a handsome amount of money, instead of spending it on buying tickets, people can spend the same money to plant more trees. Once more trees will be planted temperature of the Earth will reduced. In contrast, glaciers will not melt and severe kind of stroms can be avoided like floods, droughts. For example, Combodia has significantly managed planes travel which resulting in minimizing the stroms to a large extent.

To conclude, in my perspective, it is a very good development to think about reducing the fly every year. It will great affect our environment in a positive manner. If we continne it for longer periods of time, the damage that we have done to environment can be recovered.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the environmental benefits and some disadvantages related to reducing air travel, such as financial savings. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive, with a strong focus on environmental aspects while the disadvantages for individuals and businesses are only briefly touched upon through the idea of reducing travel expenses. Furthermore, the length requirement of 250 words was not met, as the response contains 248 words, which results in a slight penalty to the task achievement score. A clearer exploration of both sides of the argument would be required to reach a higher band. Therefore, a band score of 5.0 is appropriate.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into distinct paragraphs, including an introduction, two body paragraphs focusing on environmental and economic points, and a brief conclusion. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by awkward referencing and mechanical cohesive devices, such as 'First and foremost', 'in resulting', and 'Consequently'. Paragraphing is present, but the overall flow feels disjointed in places. The use of pronouns and linking words is sometimes inaccurate or unnatural, which impacts the overall readability and cohesion of the text. Based on these features, the appropriate band score is 5.5.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, with frequent lexical errors and inappropriate word choices such as 'flyng', 'abroad' misspelled as 'aborad', and 'stroms' for storms. While the student attempts some less common vocabulary items like 'severe gases', 'emitted', and 'substantially', these are often marred by collocation errors or inaccurate phrasing, such as 'planes travel' or 'managed planes travel'. There is a limited range of vocabulary that is minimally adequate for the task, but noticeable errors occur throughout the text. Consequently, a band score of 5.0 is awarded.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but many of these attempts contain significant grammatical errors. Examples include 'avoid to travel', 'stop flyng', 'if more number of people have decided to quit to fly very year, in resulting it will redue number of planes', and 'Once more trees will be planted temperature of the Earth will reduced'. These errors in verb tenses, infinitive forms, passive voice, and article usage are frequent and occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader, although communication is generally maintained. Therefore, a band score of 5.0 reflects these grammatical limitations.
