Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years it is noticeable that the number of annual flights declined. Moreover, people decide to stop the overall flight altogether. This practice is certainly beneficial to the enviornment eventhough it creates dificulties for individuals as well as for commerce.

A major contribution of this decision is the significant drop of exploitation towards natural resources such as mining of coal and other sources required for the production of fuels. Furthermore, the air pollution caused by burning of fuels will also be reduced. It is seen that the uncontrollable carbon emission is one of the precarious problem which leads to global warming and melting of ice in polar regions can be solved by the fall in number of flights. For instance a recent survey conducted in a urabn area of Asia proved that flight is one of the promient reason which cause air and noise pollution. In addition, half of the total population argues that it is a demanding problem which is to be fixed through reduction in its number.

On the other hand, it is evident that flight is the conveneint method of travel used by many business men and it serves a great role in trade and tourism. Abandoning flights altogether will adversely affects the economy of the government as well as individuals. Likewise, importing and exporting of commodities are taking place through flights which plays an important role in connecting the trade between various parts of the world.

In conclusion, reduction in number of flights bring positive changes to the environment. Even though, on the contrary it adversely affects the individuals and commerce. So that this issue should be handled in a way favorable for both environment and commerce.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the environmental benefits and the disadvantages for individuals and businesses. A clear position is maintained throughout the essay. The ideas are generally relevant, but some supporting points lack depth, such as the brief reference to a survey in an urban area without substantial elaboration. Additionally, there are minor factual generalisations regarding the mining of coal for fuel production. Nevertheless, the main arguments are sufficiently developed to meet the requirements of a Band 6.5 or solid Band 6, fulfilling the core prompt adequately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay is arranged coherently with a clear overall progression from introduction to body paragraphs and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'Furthermore', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion', though some transitions feel a bit mechanical or abrupt. Referencing is mostly clear, but occasional minor lapses in logical connection prevent a higher score. For example, the final paragraph attempts to summarise but introduces a slight tonal shift regarding how the issue should be handled.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student displays an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'exploitation', 'precarious', and 'commodities'. However, there are noticeable spelling errors ('enviornment', 'dificulties', 'urabn', 'promient', 'conveneint') and occasional word choice or collocation inaccuracies ('exploitation towards', 'demanding problem'). While these errors do not impede overall communication, they restrict the lexical score to a Band 5.5, as precision and spelling control are inconsistent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination and relative clauses ('It is seen that the uncontrollable carbon emission is one of the precarious problem...'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly regarding subject-verb agreement ('flight is the conveneint method', 'reduction in number of flights bring'), article usage, and singular/plural consistency ('one of the precarious problem'). Despite these errors, meaning is rarely obscured, allowing the reader to follow the argument without severe difficulty.
