Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The response is severely under-length, containing only 73 words compared to the minimum requirement of 250 words. Because of this extreme shortfall, the task cannot be fully addressed, and the ideas presented are left heavily under-developed. Although the writer attempts to introduce a position regarding the environmental benefits of reducing air travel, the argument cuts off mid-sentence (‘If individuals decides to travel...’), preventing any thorough exploration of the advantages or disadvantages for individuals and businesses. Consequently, this falls well short of the criteria for Band 5, earning a Band 3.5 due to the minimal development and incomplete nature of the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The text begins with a clear introductory sentence and attempts to present a logical sequence by introducing a topic and then offering a personal opinion. However, because the text breaks off abruptly after only three incomplete paragraphs, overall coherence and progression are severely hindered. Paragraphing is attempted, but the lack of completion makes it difficult to assess organizational control beyond a basic level. Cohesive devices are minimal, relying on simple connectors like 'Due to' and 'If'. The absence of a completed argument limits the score to Band 4.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student demonstrates a basic vocabulary with attempts at topic-related terms such as 'environmental concerns', 'air pollution', and 'fossil fuel'. However, there are notable lexical errors and awkward collocations, such as 'lessen or completey stop' instead of 'lessened or completely stopped', and 'travel through planes' instead of 'travel by plane'. The range of vocabulary is limited, and spelling errors like 'completey' further restrict the score. The vocabulary is minimally adequate for conveying basic concepts, aligning with a Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The writing contains a mix of simple and emerging complex sentence structures, but it is marred by frequent grammatical errors. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues like 'the advantages... has numerous benefits' and 'airplanes uses', as well as missing punctuation and capitalization errors (e.g., lowercase 'some', 'airplanes'). The text cuts off mid-sentence, leaving grammatical structures unresolved. Due to the high frequency of basic grammatical errors relative to the short output, the grammar warrants a Band 4.5.
