Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, trend of reducing or halting air travel for environmental reasons is increasingly common. I believe that, environemental benefits do outweigh the economic and personal disadvantages.

On the one hand, the aviation sector is one of the fastest growing contributors to global green house gas emissions, releasing immense volumes of carbon dioxide and nitrogen direclty into the upper atmosphere, where they causes disproportionate warming effects. Unlike localized industries, commercial flights affect global atmospheric system uniformly. For example , many parts of world tempreature is increasing gradually over the years due to the rising green house gas emisson.A widespread commitment to reducing flights would lead to an immediate and measurable drop in global carbon emmissions, playing a crucial role in curbing the catastrophic impacts of climate change such as rising sea levels and extreme weather conditions.

On the other hand, curbing aviation undeniably creates substantial hurdles for individuals and coorporation. For individuals, air travel is often the only viable method for visiting family abroad or experincing diverse cultures. Restricting itcan lead to a sense of isolation and significanlty lengthen the travel time if forced to rely on other means of transportation.for the businees sector, globalizations depends heavily on the speed of aviation. Restricting

flights can disrupt global supply chains, hinder urgent international corporate meeting and devastate the international tourism and hospitality industries, which millions of people rely on for their livelihoods.

In conclusion, although reducing air travel imposes undeniable economic costs on businesses and limits personal mobility, the survival of the global ecosystem is far more critical priority.Because alternatives technologies can alleviate most of the practical drawbacks, the environment necessity of reducing aviation clearly outweighs the disadvantages.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both the environmental benefits and the disadvantages for individuals and businesses, and presents a clear position throughout. The writer effectively highlights the contribution of the aviation sector to greenhouse gas emissions and balances this with valid points regarding globalized business and personal mobility. Ideas are extended and supported, such as mentioning rising sea levels and global supply chains. However, there is a slight tendency to over-generalize in places, and some arguments could benefit from further depth. Overall, the task is well addressed, earning a solid Band 7.0 under the Task Achievement criteria.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a clear overall progression and logical organization. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with distinct introduction, body paragraphs addressing opposing views, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand' are employed to guide the reader through the argument. However, cohesion is occasionally affected by mechanical phrasing or minor referencing issues. Additionally, spacing errors (such as 'For example ,' and 'emisson.A') slightly disrupt the flow. Because the logical structure is sound despite these minor mechanical flaws, the response fits comfortably into Band 6.5.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate to good range of vocabulary suited for an academic discussion, utilizing terms such as 'greenhouse gas emissions', 'disproportionate warming effects', 'global supply chains', and 'livelihoods'. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, though this is occasionally marred by spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'environemental', 'direclty', 'tempreature', 'coorporation', and 'significanlty'. Despite these errors, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning clearly without impeding communication, matching the Band 6.0 descriptors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The essay features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at varied structures such as conditional and participial clauses. There are frequent error-free sentences, but a notable presence of grammatical errors and punctuation or spacing mistakes persists throughout the text, including missing articles ('trend of reducing', 'Restricting itcan') and typos ('causes' instead of 'cause'). These errors do not impede communication, and the writer maintains a good level of control over complex structures overall, supporting a Band 6.0 score.
