Student answer (Band 6.0)

Recently climate advocates are widely being highlighting that individuals should minimize their annual flying hours or even stop flying at all just for the sake of our beloved land. We should take the lead and shoulder our responsibility in order to make our planet more cleaner and greener. With that being said I believe that if businesses and frequent travellers cut down their number of flights by even a fraction we can make significant changes.

Being a strong proclaimer of putting our environment first I undoubtdly believe that the advantages of this initiative would definetly outweight it's disadvantages. If big businesses and major number of individuals who take flights frequently start cutting down on their annual flights, it can bring a great relief not only for our environment but could also ease up overall airport operations as well. We can cut down on fuel utilization, reduce the CFCs, eradicate harmful emissions by substantial numbers. As result this we can eventually recover our damaged ozone layer and clean up the atmospheric air.

On the other hand some people do argue that, other ways of saying our Earth should be followed rather than only pin pointing the people who take flights. They assert that in comparision with the four wheels on roads airplanes can have lesser impact on our natural ecosystem. Individuals and service providers have also emphasized that traveling or shipping by plane is more time efficient and productive. So therefore, people shouldn't be restricted from hoping into planes just for this cause.

In conclusion, I would emphasize that in the long run environmental gains surpass the disadvantages being caused by limiting annual flying hours of individuals and businesses.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the environmental benefits and the disadvantages of reducing air travel for individuals and businesses. The writer presents a clear position throughout the essay, stating that the environmental advantages outweigh the drawbacks. Ideas are generally well-supported, such as mentioning the reduction of harmful emissions and airport operational relief, though some arguments like the comparison with road transport in the third paragraph could have been developed further. The position is sustained effectively from the introduction to the conclusion, satisfying the main requirements for a Band 6.5 or 7.0 response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph-by-paragraph structure, including an introduction, body paragraphs addressing both sides of the argument, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used to link ideas, such as 'With that being said', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion'. However, referencing and transitions are at times slightly mechanical or abrupt, and minor organizational awkwardness appears, such as the sudden shift into personal proclamation in the second paragraph ('Being a strong proclaimer...'). Paragraphing is used sufficiently, but overall logical progression can occasionally feel slightly disjointed.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range suitable for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'climate advocates', 'shoulder our responsibility', and 'substantials numbers'. However, there are noticeable word-choice and spelling errors that affect precision, such as 'undoubtdly', 'definetly', 'outweight it's' (its), and 'hoping into planes' instead of 'hopping'. Despite these inaccuracies, communication is not impeded, and the vocabulary remains minimally sufficient to convey the intended arguments effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The text contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt to use relative clauses and conditional structures. However, grammatical and punctuation errors are frequent throughout the response. Examples include 'climate advocates are widely being highlighting', 'more cleaner', 'As result this we can', and missing commas in compound-complex sentences (e.g., 'With that being said I believe'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they restrict the grammar score to a Band 6, as error-free sentences are not in the majority.
