Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people have lessened their flying time while some others have decided not to fly altogether considering it evironmental impacts. This essay will carefully analyze whether it's environmental benefits outweigh it's drawbacks for those individuals and their work by giving reasons and relevant examples.

First of all, it is known fact that aeroplanes do contribute to the air pollution like all other gas vehicles do. However, it is the only mode of transport that is the fastest and most reliable to travel acroos continents and countries. For example, It will take several months to travel from India to germany via road. In contrast, an airbus will probably take 7-9 hours. Even after this fact, some people and organziations are trying to raise awareness about the air pollution that is being contributed by the air buses. They give several arguments; air quality is getting worst day by day and the major contributor to it are air planes. This argument is true by all means. But what about other vehicles? are we going to ban them too? I don't think so. One other fact is more than half of the air passegers travel for lesiure, work and meeting their families. So, it wont stop the flights even if some people stop travelling by aeroplanes.

On the other hand, ther are a lot of drawbacks to those people who are doing this. For example, Arriving days after to attend a matter that needed emergency attention. Loosing clients because you can't make it to the meeting at desired time. Not able to import the goods and losing business battle to a rival company who is providing the product much early and quickly. IN the end, this will lead to failure of businesses as well as their owners. Considering these points, I think disadvantages of reducing or banning air travel are far more than the evironmental advantages.

In conclusion. the best way to attenuate air pollution without harming your business is to dcrease the number of times they fly every year rather than abandoning it completely.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear position regarding the environmental benefits and disadvantages of reducing air travel. However, the development of ideas is uneven. While the conclusion clearly states that reducing rather than abandoning flights is the best approach, some supporting arguments are left underdeveloped or slightly superficial, such as the brief rhetorical question regarding other vehicles. To reach a higher band, the student needs to extend and fully substantiate all main arguments with deeper explanations and more comprehensive real-world examples rather than leaving certain points as brief assertions.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph structure separating the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Information and ideas flow logically from discussing the necessity of air travel to the personal and business drawbacks of cutting it out entirely. Nevertheless, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or relies on basic transitions, and referencing can occasionally be unclear, such as the ambiguous pronoun reference in the conclusion regarding 'they fly'. To improve, the writer should employ a wider and more flexible range of cohesive devices and ensure smoother transitions between sentences to guide the reader effortlessly through the argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The writer uses an adequate vocabulary range to communicate ideas effectively on the topic of air travel and the environment. There are several spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, such as 'evironmental', 'acroos', 'organziations', 'worst', 'passegers', 'lesiure', and 'Loosing', alongside minor collocation slips like 'participating in' or 'contributed by'. While these errors do not seriously impede communication, they highlight the limitations in lexical precision and accuracy. To achieve a higher level, the writer needs to expand their range of less common lexical items, exercise greater control over word forms, and eliminate basic spelling mistakes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, showcasing attempts at multi-clause structures such as 'Some people have lessened their flying time while some others have decided...' However, there are notable grammatical errors, including article omissions ('it is known fact'), punctuation issues (the fragment 'For example, It will take...'), subject-verb agreement slips, and prepositional errors. These errors occur regularly alongside correct simple structures, but they rarely impede overall communication. To progress further, the writer must increase the proportion of error-free complex sentences and exercise tighter control over punctuation, articles, and verb patterns.
