Student answer (Band 5.0)

Few individuals have choosen to minimize the number of times they fly or even though some have stoped flying. I will discuss both its benefits and drawbacks before my own opinion, in addition i will also argue on its impact on our ecosystem.

One primary reason for this is the inflation rates, therefore huge number of people have decided to not to travel by air, they now used to travel by roads, however This is time taking process, but it is very cheap and reliable. For instance, if you want to travel from Lahore to Islamabad by air it cost you about thirty thousands and if this travel is done by a car than the expence should be the half, if you travel by local transport than it will be alot cheaper than a car. As a result, most of individuals have stoped flying, But if you have any emergancy and you need to reach the other place quickly or want to go to other countries than you whould travel by air.

On the other hand, If you reduce the number of flights by huge numbers than it is vary benificial for our environvent and our health. This point is clearly illustrated that if flights got minimize than the fuel which was burnt by the plane will not be burnt and the exaust gasses will be reduced, therefore it is better for our ecosystem. If the flights got reduced than the waste materials also got reduce, and our environment stay clean and healthier.

From my perspective, a balanced approach is the best way to address this issue, because many persons have to go to different places in accordance to different meetings and if air travel is not available than it whould be very difficult to travel. If the garbage and smoke will increased than it will demage the whole world and life on earth will be hard.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt only partially, fulfilling the criteria for this band. While the writer attempts to discuss both the benefits of reducing flights and the disadvantages for individuals and businesses, the ideas remain limited and under-developed. For instance, the discussion on the economic causes of flight reduction focuses heavily on personal anecdotes regarding travel costs between Lahore and Islamabad rather than broad business or individual impacts. Furthermore, the writer's position is not entirely clear throughout the essay, as the introduction states an intention to discuss the topic and give an opinion, but the conclusion blends general environmental concerns with a somewhat disconnected point about business meetings. To progress to a higher band, the writer must extend and support their ideas with fully elaborated arguments and maintain a consistent, clear position throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay displays some organization, but lacks a clear overall progression. Paragraphing is attempted, with distinct sections for the introduction, economic reasons, environmental benefits, and a conclusion, but the flow between ideas is frequently disrupted. Cohesive devices are used rather repetitively and sometimes inaccurately, such as the overuse of 'therefore' and 'if' structures to link clauses where logical connection is weak. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the abrupt transition in the second paragraph from inflation to a personal example about travel costs. To improve, the writer should ensure that each paragraph builds logically upon the previous one and employ a wider, more natural variety of cohesive devices to guide the reader smoothly through the argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'ecosystem', 'inflation', and 'beneficial', but noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling occur throughout the text, including 'choosen', 'stoped', 'expence', 'emergancy', 'whould', and 'demage'. These lexical inaccuracies occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted control over word formation. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to expand their lexical repertoire and ensure correct spelling and word forms, utilizing less common items with greater precision and stylistic awareness.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates a limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on basic sentence forms with frequent attempts at complex conditional sentences that are often faulty. For example, sentences such as 'If the flights got reduced than the waste materials also got reduce' exhibit errors in verb tense consistency, subject-verb agreement, and clause structure. Frequent grammatical errors are present across the text, including incorrect prepositions, punctuation issues, and misuse of modal verbs like 'whould'. These errors frequently cause difficulty for the reader. To move up to the next band, the writer must exercise better control over complex sentence patterns, improve tense consistency, and reduce the frequency of basic grammatical mistakes.
