To begin with the most significant advantage of less flying is its impact on the environment. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the environmental benefits and the disadvantages for individuals and businesses, maintaining a clear position throughout. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For instance, the discussion on the environmental impact is quite detailed, whereas the points regarding business consequences, such as international meetings and developing relationships, remain somewhat generalized and underdeveloped. To reach a higher band, all main ideas should be equally extended and supported with fully fleshed-out examples rather than brief mentions.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from the introduction through the body paragraphs to the conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate distinct ideas, such as the environmental benefits in the second paragraph and the disadvantages in the third. Nevertheless, cohesion is occasionally faulty or mechanical. The writer relies on basic cohesive devices like 'To begin with', 'However', and 'Neverthless', and referencing is at times unclear, such as the incomplete phrase 'travelling by between major cities'. Improving the variety and seamless integration of cohesive links would elevate the organizational quality.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, providing enough terms to discuss the topic of air travel and environmental impact. The writer attempts less common vocabulary such as 'contemporary era' and 'greenhouse gases', but this is accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and spelling. Examples include 'altogather', 'disadvantagesfor', 'dawnbreak', 'qualities' instead of quantities, 'globel', 'emmisions', 'bues', 'vehicales', 'oparates', 'morden', and 'coomunication'. These spelling and word choice errors do not heavily impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score because precision and control are lacking.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as 'While this decision may create certain disadvantages... but i believe...'. However, there are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing articles, incorrect prepositions ('travelling by between'), capitalization errors ('i'), and awkward punctuation spacing. While these errors rarely impede overall communication, they represent a recurring pattern of inaccuracies that prevents the grammatical score from rising higher. A wider variety of error-free complex structures and closer attention to basic punctuation and capitalization are needed for the next level.
